It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Catherine, the inspirational leader of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay For Life in Flin Flon. A recognized community leader and builder, Catherine refused to let a cancer diagnosis slow her down. She remained active in a host of activities from neighbourhood revitalization to Partners in Planning. In 2011, she and a dedicated group of volunteers rallied the people of Flin Flon to join the fight against cancer. In all, 28 teams with 258 participants Relayed in support of Manitobans on a cancer journey. Our hearts go out to her family, friends and those who worked closely with her within the community. We at the Canadian Cancer Society share your loss. We will take inspiration from her courage, leadership and determination to beat cancer as we head into another Relay season. Cathy’s legacy will, in part, be her dedication to helping others and making a positive difference. Her example stiffens our resolve to do all we can to beat cancer. Cathy’s family and friends are in our thoughts during this challenging time. I meet Cathy when she moved to Flin Flon 36 yrs ago. We have worked, played and travelled together staying steadfast friends for over 3 decades. I will miss my dear friend very much, treasuring all the laughter and wonderful memories we had together. My heartfelt condolences go out to Cathy's soulmate Allan and to all of Cathy's family who have treated me as "family" for many years. I will always be here for them to offer a shoulder to cry on or an ear to talk too. Love Leona Ward Paetsch - Posted by: Leona Paetsch (One of Cathy's oldest and dearest friends) on: Nov 17, 2012
