ROY HEINRICHS On November 18, with family members at his side, Roy passed from his earthly life to eternal life with his God. He is survived by his wife Edith, his brother Harvey (Gloria) of Surrey, B.C., his son Doug, and daughter Terri (Winnipeg) and his son David (wife Phoenix) of Japan, and three grandchildren: Jason, Janine (Andy) and Misha, and three great-grandchildren Alexia, Brayden, Madison and Jacob, and a nephew Cameron. Roy was born in Plum Coulee, but his family moved to Winnipeg before he was six years old. He very actively participated in sports such as broomball, bowling, baseball and badminton for all his school years and throughout adulthood. He won many trophies in each sport he tried. In his later adult life he won gold medals in badminton at the Police and Fire Games in San Diego and Australia. In his retirement years he took up tennis and became a very skilled player. This past summer he enjoyed wonderful months of playing tennis with a great group of encouraging fellows who helped him regain his tennis skills after he had suffered a stroke. From his teen years until his final week, he was always an avid Blue Bomber fan. Roy was trained as a draughtsman but always felt a pull towards a career in police work. In 1962 he joined the St. James Police Force. After amalgamation he worked in the St. Boniface and downtown Winnipeg stations. Then for the last ten years of his police career he returned to the St. James station. Roy was always very proud to be able to have a career as a policeman. Roy and Edie enjoyed traveling abroad from England throughout Europe to Greece, to Caribbean islands, to Fiji to Australia to New Zealand, and to Japan. When Roy retired in 1992, he and Edit spent the next 15 winters in Arizona where they made many new friends. He was the sort of person who was always so pleased to be able to help others. He and Edie delivered Christmas hampers and Meals on Wheels. With each contact Roy tried to bring a bit of friendship and cheer to many housebound or lonely persons. Roy loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved wrestling with them on the carpet, or playing hide and seek, every chance he got. He was a very faithful, loving, and faith filled husband, father and grandfather. He will be very much missed, and his family's world will be a sadder one without him. Funeral service at St. John Brebeuf Church on Friday, November 30, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined in lieu of a donation to a charity of your choice.

Roy was a friend of mine for many years when I played badminton at the Westwin Gym. He was an excellent player with one of the trickiest serves I had ever seen, beautiful net play and a great smash. I played with him in several tournaments and we never came out of them without winning something. He was always a great sportsman, full of fun and energy. I loved him for the wonderful person he was and the kindness he always showed to me. He also coached me when I played in the Charleswood softball league when we needed a coach. My heart and sympathy goes out to all of his family. HEAVEN IS LUCKY TO HAVE THIS WONDERFUL MAN. - Posted by: Bonnie Gabbs (friend and badminton partner) on: Nov 26, 2012

You have become such an important part of our lives over the past 14 years in Arizona. We feel you are part of our family and we are part of your family. We will certainly miss Roy's love and wonderful sense of humor. We spent many a day laughing, praying, sharing and even a few sad moments. You both helped us in so many ways. We will always remember and be grateful to you both. We love you. Know you are in our prayers, dear friends. Bill & I are still searching for the realization that such a good friend, as Roy, has been taken from you, and us, so suddenly when you were both here as our guests such a short time ago. May God be with you all as you journey down the road without your beloved Roy. God bless. Bill & June - Posted by: Bill & June Brychka (Good friends) on: Nov 25, 2012

Never once did I see Mr. Heinrichs without a smile and those blue eyes twinkling. He was a genuine and caring individual who will be greatly missed. He had a great love for his family and proudly provided updates for Doug, Terry and David and the grandchildren. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. - Posted by: Madeleine Frost (Family Friend) on: Nov 25, 2012

We send our deepest sympathies to you, Edith and to Doug, Terry, David and all your family and Roy's friends. We know you already miss him. We will always remember how much Roy enjoyed spending time with Edith and his family. We've been told he was a favorite uncle and a great friend to have. -Yes, Edit, we noticed how much he cherished you. It was evident as he looked at you and listened, smiled, talked softly and turned to us to share funny anecdotes. We will always remember Roy's enthusiasm for life, his love of sports, his kind heart and his wonderful sense of humor. - Posted by: Donald Osborne and Rita (friend of the family) on: Nov 24, 2012
