Date of Passing: Nov 20, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHULDA KUEHN (nee LASER) November 30, 1926 - November 20, 2012 Hulda Kuehn, aged 85, departed this world on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 to join her Heavenly Father. She was admitted to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary on November 17, 2012, where she passed on with her three children at her side. Hulda is esteemed and lovingly remembered by her children: Sig (Tannis), Karin (Garry), Norbert (Karen); grandchildren: Nathan, Matthew (Amanda), Anne, Andrew, Kimberly (Justin), Alex; her surviving sister, Frieda (nee Laser) Stiem; her many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, church family, and friends. Hulda was predeceased by her husband, Fredrick Kuehn on October 29, 2010; her mother, Esmeralda (nee Laser); her father, Bruno Laser; and siblings: Charlotte, Gerhard, Johanna, Waldemar, Martha, Helmut, Heinrich, Margarete, Kurt, Christian, and Rudolf. Hulda was born in Golub, Poland and was the 12th of 13 children born in her family. After the war, her family found its way to Goslar, in what had become West Germany. She was the first of her family to emigrate from Germany. She settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba and worked in the garment industry, which is where she met Fredrick Kuehn whom she married on November 1, 1952 in McDermot Baptist Church. On October 25, 1957 she was granted her Canadian Citizenship. In 1970, she moved with her husband and two children to Calgary, Alberta. Hulda became a dedicated member of Thornhill Baptist Church where she attended the past 42 years. She valued education and encouraged her children, both by example and by reminding them that it is never too late to pray. Hulda deeply loved and enjoyed her children and grandchildren and was looking forward to the arrival of her first great-grandchild in January 2013. Throughout her life she had a delightful sense of humour, was an ardent conversationalist and a keen mentor; she was known as being devoted, frugal and selfless while habitually demonstrating her generosity and hospitality with her family, friends, her community, and all of her acquaintances. Relatives and close friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at a Visitation held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. followed by a Graveside Service at Queen's Park Cemetery. Hulda's Celebration of Life Service will commence at 3:00 p.m. at Thornhill Baptist Church, 128 Tache Avenue N.W., Calgary, with Pastor Ken VanderMeulen officiating.
