GUY FOSTER SMITH 1957 - 2012 It is with profound sadness that the family of Guy Smith announce that his beautiful soul was set free on November 18, 2012. His infinite kindness and extraordinary sense of humour, along with the joy and laughter that he offered freely will be cherished in all of our hearts. Guy was raised in Transcona, attending Wayoata School with his twin brother, Gavin. In time, the family moved to the West End and Guy attended General Wolfe and Tec Voc schools, making friends everywhere that he went. After several years of working for Canada Post, Guy earned his qualifications as a Graphic Designer from Red River College. In his role as a Graphic Designer, he had the chance to really express his creativity, and he took such pride in his work at Triad Graphics, where he worked with his sister, Geri. Guy's life was about people - family, friends, colleagues, everyone; Guy loved being with people and everyone loved being with Guy. His kind and gentle spirit impressed upon everyone whom he met. Most often the centre of attention, Guy could be found telling a tale, playfully teasing someone or just having a laugh. His sense of humour was truly remarkable. Just the raising of an eyebrow or the pointing of a finger was enough to set us off into gales of laughter. It was his compassion and love for his family that were important to Guy. Whether he was shopping for his mother's Christmas present (only to be asked if he'd like to try on the women's garment he was purchasing for her), camping on May long weekends with his brothers (what happened on the long weekend, stayed on the long weekend), or teasing his nieces and nephews (who delighted in every minute of it), Guy was in his element. Guy took great pleasure in the outdoors, sport, music and socialising; his travels through Europe were a distinct highlight of his life. Throughout the latter years of Guy's life, he often recalled with great pleasure the many good times spent with friends and family. And now, we too, shall remember our wonderful times with Guy. With Guy's passing, a void is left in the hearts of his loving mother, Anna; sisters, Geri and Pat; brothers, Bill (Brenda) and Gavin (Suzanne); nieces and nephews, Angela, Philip, Dennis, Ryan and Erin; as well as six great-nieces and nephews. Guy was predeceased by his father, Arthur and brother-in-law Donald Fortescue. The family whole heartedly thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre for their great compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family will privately honour Guy and celebrate the indelible mark he has left on our lives.
