WALTER BASARABA Peacefully on November 24, 2012, Walter passed away at the age of 87 with family by his side. Walter was predeceased by his parents Sophie and John; his brothers: Mike, Pete, Louis, Joe and Stanley; and his sister Tillie. Walter is survived by his wife of 56 years Olga, his brother Philip (Enid), his daughters Connie (Rick) and Darlene (Brian) and grandchildren: Jesse (Charis), Lindsay and Jamie and numerous extended family. Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather was born May 27, 1925. His family resided on a farm in the Sylvan district in Manitoba. In his teen years he moved to Winnipeg where he began his employment at Burns Foods where he worked until his retirement. While in Winnipeg he met the love of his life Olga and they were married in 1956. Walter would often be found with a mischievous twinkle in his eye as he sat at the dinner table surrounded by family. He had a wonderful sense of humour and always enjoyed celebrations with family and friends. He enjoyed soaking in the sun in the backyard, or on the beaches of Hawaii, his favorite vacation spot. He loved to travel and took the family on many trips. He will always be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his family as being a generous, kind, and caring husband, father and grandfather. The Funeral will take place on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, followed by the burial at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
