TRUE STORIES 1. WHEN BERT WAS A YOUNG TEENAGER, HE WOULD TAKE VERY VERY THIN COPPER WIRE AND SOLDER IT TO A PENNY. He would then polaxce the penny on the lane next to his bedroom window. When some poor soul picked up the penny Bert would turn the crank on his little generator and give them a shock they would not forget. 2. When Bert was an up and comng apprentice at M.T.S. (like4 where else)He chasing after a tall slim redhead who lived on Arnold Ave. Ruth Raynor by name. How do I know - she is my cousin. I remember Bert as a kind fun loving guy. I was shocked and saddened to hear of Bert and Joanne’s sudden death. Bert was one of many colourful characters we met while working at mTs and ‘The Rouge’. I recall him repairing friends’ vacuum cleaners on the ‘GRover’ (474/475) workbench in his spare time! Bert’s individuality was evident when it came to doing his daily work assignments. He was a cheerful, kindly Central Office technician who was always willing to help others. I admired him even more since knowing he was caring for his ailing wife with Dementia when fire suddenly struck their beloved Fort Rouge home. - Posted by: Keith Hall (mTs co-worker) on: Dec 02, 2012

I had not seen my uncle Bert since my childhood, but I remember him with fondness. I worked with him in the hay fields on our farm when he and aunt Flo brought their family out to visit one summer. I still recall some of the jokes he told me and some of the limericks that I cannot repeat here. My mother told me many entertaining stories of her brother when they were growing up in Winnipeg. Rest in Peace Bert and Joanne. - Posted by: George BAKER (Nephew) on: Nov 29, 2012
