VASILICI KOUNANIS Peacefully on Monday November 26, 2012, Vasilici Kounanis (nee Kantzioris) passed away in Theologos, Sparta Greece, her birthplace. Vasilici was born February 24, 1931, and later immigrated to Canada in 1956, where she met and married her husband, George. They worked together, side by side enjoying their many business ventures. Vasilici had a zest for life and enjoyed gardening, travelling, and spending time with her family. She was very proud of her culture and heritage. As a true Spartan, she would return to her homeland every summer. Vasicili was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who had a great spirit and a passion for life, and she will be greatly missed. She is predeceased by her parents, and brother Ioannis (John) Kantzioris. Vasilici leaves to cherish in her memory, her loving children, Eleni, Paul (Debbie), Petula, James, Anna Maria (Marcus), and her four grandchildren, Arthur, Nicholas, Aidan and Maximus. She also leaves to mourn sister-in-law, Georgia Kantzioris and many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends in Greece. Prayers will be held Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Avenue. Funeral service will be held at the same location on Thursday, December 6 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Fr. Theodore Paraskevopoulos officiating. Internment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

  • My dearest Eleni, Paul, Petula, James, Anna Maria, spouses and grandchildren. My condolences on the passing of your beautiful mother. I hold very fond memories of your mom and dad when I was a child visiting the greenhouse on Albany. As a child I always thought the house inside the greenhouse was where the cookie lady lived. I would run towards the house give your smiling dad a big hug and your mom opened the door and handed me a yummy treat/s. Those were the best memories being a kid. God Bless - Posted by: stefphany cholakis (family friends) on: Dec 04, 2012
