WANDA JOZEFINA WOJCIECHOWSKA
Born: Feb 25, 1927
Date of Passing: Nov 29, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWANDA JOZEFINA WOJCIECHOWSKA February 25, 1927 - November 29, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Friend on November 29, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Health Sciences Centre. Wanda was a loving Mother to Christine (Alfred), Zbigniew (Blanche), Henry, Stanley and Ted (Rita). A loving Grandmother to Tara, Barb, Kimberly, Zbigniew Jr., Christopher, Gerald, Vanessa and especially to Tamara with whom she had a special bond. She was a Great-Grandmother to 19 great-grandchildren: Claire, Holly, Larissa, Kelsey, Kennedy, Travis, Zsara, Savannah, Thomas, Zachary, Jordan, Lakota, Zbigniew Jr., Taylor, Christopher Jr., Brooklyn, Akira, Oliver and Sava. Also remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters-in-law, Theresa, Ruth and Lorraine whom she adored as well. Mom was predeceased by her devoted soulmate, Wladyslaw and her son, Eugene. Mom was the eldest of eight children - four brothers: Jan, Jozef, Stanislaw and Kashmire, three sisters: Janina, Krystyna and Ana (all surviving) along with many cousins, nieces and nephews in Poland. She also had many friends whom respected and adored her charisma, intelligence, generosity and humour. Mom was born in Nizankowice, Poland on February 25, 1927. She spent her teen years in forced labour camps during the Second World War in Germany. She married and came to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1955 for a better life. Her early years were difficult ones as she raised her family by herself. Mom was a fighter and persevered with integrity, grace and pride. She taught her children that you can survive adversity and those values are engrained as a lasting memory of Her in our Hearts. Dearest Wladek came into her life as an Angel from God to assist her in life's journey and they spent 50 loving years together before his passing. It is with peace that we know they are reunited again. Mom was a strong, religious/spiritual, loving woman and would do anything for her family. She intimately knew what starvation felt like during the Second World War and always had food cooking on the stove to feed us and anyone in the neighbourhood that would drop by. Her door was open and she was always willing to share her food and graciously did so for many. She diligently went wild mushroom and wild blueberry picking every year and picked enough to fill the freezer full for the long cold Winnipeg winters. She was a good cook and then taught Wladek her recipes and then he surpassed her by becoming a Great cook. She loved to garden with him, often sang and loved her many cats over the years that she treated like children. In her passing, she has left a grand void in our lives, however she left us with the blessing of her memory which we will hold dear and her passing shall bring us all closer, for that is a legacy we know she would like to leave. She is at peace now with Wladek, her soulmate and son, Eugene. Wanda remained an active and devoted member of Holy Ghost Parish since her arrival to Canada in 1955. She fundamentally taught her children that it was imperative to have spiritual faith in life in order to survive adversity. She also taught us many Polish prayers which we will chant privately in our thoughts of her. The family would like to thank Christine for all her care and support over the last few years. Prayers will be said on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 6:00 p.m., Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Rosary beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Parish, 341 Selkirk Avenue with an Oblate Father as Celebrant. Mass will be celebrated in Polish and English. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her loving sons, Zbigniew, Henry, Stanley and Ted along with her devoted son-in-law, Alfred and dear family friend, Edward Zurawski. 204-586-8044
