ROMEO (ROY) AUDETTE March 10, 1923 - December 2, 2012 Roy passed away peacefully in his favourite chair. Dad took great comfort in his faith, which was deeply instilled by his mother. He sang in the choir, which combined his love of music and religion. He also brought communion to the shut-ins. Dad was always active in the community. He devoted time to the Knights of Columbus and les Soeurs Oblates, among many others. Dad was a Second World War Veteran and proudly served with the Canadian Army in Europe. He loved music and dancing; so smoothly that his partners seemed to glide along. He played bingo every Saturday and was always up for a game of cards. Another favourite pastime was baking, always trying a new recipe to share with friends. He also enjoyed gardening, taking great pride in his roses and carnations. Dad was unofficial family historian, and worked diligently for 25 years to have his family properly honoured as Transcona pioneers. His wish came true and we now have Audette Drive. Roy is survived by his brother Leo, sister-in-law Monique, daughter Jackie (Rene), son Paul (Cindy), daughter Gisele (Todd), and his grandchildren, Kevin (Nicole), Chantelle (Tony), Christophe (Cassie), Philippe, Danielle, Amanda, great-granddaughter Samantha, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Jill and his son Berny. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Cathedral, 180 Cathedral Avenue, St. Boniface. 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I tried calling Roy today as I was making preparations for Thanksgiving because I came across his Apricot Cookie recipe that he shared with me. I thought I better call him because it's been way too long. Longer than I thought. The number was not-in-service. So I thought, oh my goodness, has he moved or passed. So sorry to see his obituary in passages. I met him at Bingo and we enjoyed each other's company but life gets so busy it's hard to stay in contact with everyone that you like so my telephone calls and going to bingo with Roy slowly stopped and became non-existent. My thoughts go out to the Audette family. Your Dad was a kind, loving and thoughtful man. I'm so sorry that I did not know of his passing until today. I think of him often, fondly, at different times but just wish I'd taken the time to pick up the phone. Please accept my belated condolences. I just did not know. Sincerely, Brenda - Posted by: Brenda Mazur (Acquaintance ) on: Oct 12, 2013

  • Roy and I were not only family, but friends. I will miss his visits here in Mississppi and the phone calls we made to each other, especially in winter when I would tell him how we are sitting out on my patio in the mid of winter and Roy would tell me how he was snowed in. Roy taught me alot in the kitchen, we baked and cooked alot together. Now everytime I scrape something out of a bowl, I think of Roy cause he got me to using a spatula and not a spoon, Roy believed in getting every drop. I will cherish all the stories he shared about his childhood and military experience. Roy was my buddy. One day we will see one another again. Roy will never be forgotten, because, to live with Jesus and in our hearts is never to die!! - Posted by: Barbara Jean Clark (2nd cousin) on: Dec 27, 2012

  • Roy Audette was generous and loving man. He devoted many years singing in the Cathedral choir. He always loved to share his good Easter bread with friends. Roy, may you rest in peace in Jesus' arms. Gabie D. - Posted by: Gabrielle Desaulniers (Good friend) on: Dec 12, 2012

  • Jackie, Paul, Giselle and families, we are sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. We have fond memories of times spent together, mostly around the dinner table, indulging in his fabulous tortiere or many other culinary greats. He will be missed. - Posted by: Audry Letain, Pearl Persowich (Friend) on: Dec 06, 2012
