Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySAM BLUMENFELD March 14, 1926 - December 8, 2002 On the Tenth Anniversary of his passing, we are proud to pay tribute to Sam Blumenfeld - husband, father and grandfather. Sam and Sara immigrated to Canada in 1953, escaping the horrors of World War II and were part of the movement of refugees who took part in Israel's fight for independence in 1948. Their story is similar to many Jewish immigrants who arrived in Canada to start a new life and raise a family in this land of opportunity, free from religious persecution. They came to Canada with limited resources and had to learn to adapt to a new land, a new culture and a new language. The drive and determination that held them so well throughout their young lives translated into success in their new home land. Although his beginnings were humble, he was self-educated with a curious mind and a strong will. Sam was a self-made man in every aspect of the word, full of drive and determination. Through his hard work, he purchased Niagara Esso Service in 1957 and ran this business until his retirement in 1988. Over more than 30 years of faithfully serving his customers in Winnipeg, Sam had built a wide network of friends, colleagues and business associates. He was extremely proud of the success of his small operation and equally as proud of the work he did as an innovator and negotiator in supporting the rights of his industry. Over the course of his career he received numerous prestigious awards in recognition of his efforts. He was a man of many interests and would methodically research every aspect of his wide range of activities which included travel, cuisine and horticulture. An avid angler, Sam was never at a loss for words when describing his many fishing trips with friends and family. As a matter of fact, he was never at a loss for words on almost any subject that was up for discussion. He was a man with a strong will, tenacious in all his endeavours! And like most men, he could be at times loving and gracious, at other times stubborn and opinionated. His desire for improvement, his thirst for knowledge, his devotion to his wife and family, and his loyalty to his friends are all part of his legacy.
