NORA (DOLLY) HARMACY (nee AMEY) November 8, 1923 - December 8, 2012 After a brief illness and courageous battle, Nora passed as she wanted, on her own, shortly after her family left her side. She was predeceased by her infant son, Jimmy, husband Michael, and father Herbert, mother Rose and brother Norman. She leaves to mourn, her daughters Arlene (Frank Bell), Donna (Glen Thomson) and Barbara (Grant Jones). Also her grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Christine Bell (Mark Drewniak), Samantha Bell (Craig Holloway), Derek and Kelsey Thomson, and Meagan and Madison Jones, and precious great-granddaughter Callie Drewniak. She also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by acquaintances and friends (especially Maria Z.) at Fred Douglas Personal Care Home where she resided for the past three years. Mom loved to bowl and for years took part in an afternoon and evening league. She was an avid reader and had a passion for crossword puzzles. Mom loved spending time at Grand Beach. It was there that she had her fondest memories of her family. She drove her van until she was 82 years old and gave up her keys on her own. Mom was sharp of mind until the end and loved playing cards with anyone who came to visit her. She loved sitting at the big window on Oak Unit with Maria even if they were both sleeping in their chairs. The family would like to thank Seven Oaks Emergency and the Doctors and Nurses on 4U7 for their kindness to Nora while she was there. Also the family wishes to express their gratitude for all the help and encouragement from the staff on Oak Unit at Fred Douglas and the Palliative Care Doctor and Nurse who looked after mom in her last few days. They not only made her passage comfortable, they made it very easy for us to accept that mom's time was near and that we could rely on them for anything we might need. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, December 15, at 12:00 noon at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or charity of your choice. 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Unfortunately we will not be able to attend the service this morning. Our thoughts are with all of you in this time of sorrow. It's difficult to see those we love get older and then move on, however, it is the wonderful memories of them that keeps their spirit alive in their children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Aunt Dolly was a very positive and never to be forgotten influence in the lives of the Harmacy family. With all our love, John & Joyce - Posted by: John & Joyce Harmacy (Nephew & Spouse) on: Dec 15, 2012
