MERLE SHARIFA CATHERINE GAJADHAR (née ALI) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Merle Sharifa Catherine Gajadhar (née Ali), on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Victoria General Hospital. Remaining to forever cherish Merle's memory are her beloved husband of 60 years, Henry Clinton Gajadhar; daughter, Michelle Gajadhar-Toor; son-in-law, Tim Toor; and grandchildren Kamisha and Jaitin. Merle was the eldest sister to: Monica Dolsingh, deceased (Rupert); Joyce Mohamed (Ed, deceased); Gloria Beharrysingh, deceased (Boris, deceased); Shiraz Ali, deceased (Vilma); Hashameen Carroll, deceased (George, deceased); Homida Holder; Ayoub Ali; Eumelah Revoy, deceased (Tom); and Farida Lalbiharie (Noble). Merle married her husband, Clinton in 1952. Together, and owing to her husband's pursuit of higher education, they immigrated to Winnipeg in 1959 where they quickly established a new life together alongside several siblings and friends also of recent West Indian extraction. Howbeit, Merle remained lastingly connected to her Caribbean island roots ( home ), traveling back-and-forth continually well into her final years. Above all, Merle was very much moved by the love she had for her family; her husband and daughter, and, likewise, her extended family of siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, close friends, son-in-law, and, at length, her grandchildren, who brought to her life incalculable joy and pride especially in her later years. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd., with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault P.H., presiding, and Rev. Msgr. S. Jaworski, con-celebrant. Burial will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. Her family would like to sincerely thank the dedicated staff of the Victoria General Hospital for their compassionate and tireless devotion and care. If so desired, donations may be made in Merle's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 - 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Dearest Uncle Clinton, Michelle, Tim, Kamisha and Jaitin. My heart breaks for you all at this very sad time. Auntie Merle was and will always be a wonderful lady. She was the heart and soul of our family, and I have the best childhood memories. I loved sleeping over at your house, because I always knew there would be good food and fun crafts to look forward to. Auntie Merle always had a smile on her face, no matter how she was feeling, or what she was going through. Her laugh will always ring in my ears- it always made you feel better. She never missed sending out a birthday card, or making sure everyone knew how much she cared. My only sadness and regret is that I did not get to spend the last few years with her. I wish with all my heart that we could have said Good-Bye, but know that all of you are in my heart and my thoughts. With much love from all of us in the UK. - Posted by: Melissa, Duncan, Amber and Connor (Niece) on: Dec 12, 2012
