SUSAN CARD Peacefully, on Sunday, December 9, 2012, with family by her side, Susan passed away at the Ottawa General Hospital, at 60 years of age. After undergoing treatment for breast cancer in 2007, Susan recovered and lived cancer free for four more wonderful years. In early 2012 Susan was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in her bones. Her passing resulted from complications related to her illness. Susan left this world with the same grace and strength that she was known for throughout her life. She never complained, and she always thought about others before she thought of herself. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an ability to take life in stride. A favorite saying of Susan's was one she got from a greeting card; "Life's too mysterious, don't take it serious". Susan loved animals, enjoyed travelling, watching sports, reading, and listening to music. She was skilled in a number of crafts including; gardening, quilting, stained glass, and interior design. Susan was predeceased by her sister Adrienne. Susan is survived by her parents; June and Frank Madden; her husband Gary; sons; Harley and Jesse; sister Kathy; brothers Joel, Chris, Paul, Terry; and their families. Susan earned a diploma in Cytology from the St. Boniface School of Medical Technology (1973) and a B.A. in Human Ecology from The University of Manitoba (1983). Susan worked as a laboratory technologist before staying home to raise her two sons. She would later return to work at a variety of jobs including her most recent position as financial administrator for All Phase Clinical Research. Susan wanted to thank all her doctors, especially; S. Dent, K. Bhimji, L. Kent, and all of the nurses and staff at The Queensway, Irving Greenberg, and General Hospitals. A service of remembrance will be held in Winnipeg in early 2013, with details to follow. In Lieu of flowers consider a donation to the charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (15 entries)

  • Here now at September 2nd, 2015 as I prepare to sell our home in Ottawa and move to Victoria to be with our long time friend Lynn Wilson, I reflect on the most wonderful life, marriage and parenting any person deserves to experience. I am grateful for so many things, too many to list! Susan leaves to new home owners, a mature beautiful garden, a fully renovated home with her designed Bathrooms and Kitchen in the house that "Grey's Anatomy" star Sandra Oh grew up in! - Posted by: Gary Card (Husband) on: Sep 02, 2015

  • 2 years and just over 3 months after Susan's body passed, I still feel her with me much of the time. Returning to Fort Lauderdale to visit with Roy & Carol Anne where the 4 of us first came together in February of 2007, I have visited many of the places we went together then and in subsequent years as we came back to Fort Lauderdale almost every year, the last trip being in March 2012. I have had many experiences over the past 2+ years that lead me to strongly believe her spirit lives on. His "....father's house has many mansions"! - Posted by: Gary Card (Husband, Best Friend, Life Partner and Soul Mate) on: Mar 28, 2015

  • Lorn and I send our sincere condolences on the loss of a beautiful soul. Susan was a beautiful girl with a heart of gold and always a kindred spirit. Her last email to me was November 30 and she was cheering me up. Always more concerned about others and not herself. Gary, Harley and Jesse, there is a terrible void right now but in the future you will relish all the beautiful memories that you shared as a family. God bless you all at this difficult time but know that the Hamiltons have your back with many prayers and special thoughts of a dear and beautiful niece and god-daughter and friend. - Posted by: Lorn and Judith SHamilton (Judith is her aunt and god-mother) on: Dec 18, 2012
