MAURICE (MOE) SOLOMON January 23, 1938 - December 10, 2012 Peacefully at home in the loving arms of his family, Moe completed his journey here on earth. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Eileen and beloved children Mark and Carolyn. Also fondly remembering Moe are his sisters Elsie (Barry), Martha (Ralph), his brother Joe (Maline), several nieces and nephews, cousins, brother-in-law Harold, sister-in-law Sheila and their daughter Rosanne, his longtime friend Vic Funk and many other friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Ann and his brothers Donald and Peter of Tolstoi, Manitoba. Dad greatly enjoyed his 56 years in the plumbing and heating wholesale industry. He began his career at Western Supplies in 1956, finishing his career at Wolseley Mechanical in 2012. Dad's customers meant the world to him and he took great pride in providing exceptional customer service. Dad also treasured his many longstanding friendships in the industry. Moe's commitment to service also extended to his former volunteer work as a cub scout leader, board member of Luther Home and involvement with the Manitoba Provincial Junior Golf teams. Moe always had a love of sport. As a young man, he was an all-star baseball player. Later, his love of hockey led him to become an official with Hockey Winnipeg and he served many years as Referee-in-Chief for North Winnipeg and also Junior B. He received an award from Hockey Canada for his 35 years of service as a hockey official in Manitoba. His hockey friends meant so much to him on and off the ice. Golf was his other passion and he thoroughly enjoyed the 32 years of camaraderie and golf with the A Group at Elmhurst. One of his most cherished accomplishments was winning the Provincial Father-Son Golf Championship with Mark. Dad enjoyed going to NFL Viking games with Mark and the boys. He also liked playing armchair quarterback with gym members at Mark's fitness centre and chatting with the members he had come to know over the years. Dad was always there to lend a helping hand with Mark's businesses. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the Palliative Care Program. Special thanks to Dr. St. Godard (Dr. Ted), an exceptional doctor and wonderful human being. Special thanks also to our nurse Jen and all the other nurses who helped Moe pass in comfort and with dignity. Also, our greatest thanks and deepest gratitude to the Sajdak family, whose enduring kindness and support will always be remembered. Thanks also to all those who offered their support and kind words of sympathy. To respect Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery. Please join us for a come and go reception celebrating Moe's life on Saturday, December 29 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Viscount Gort Hotel, 1670 Portage Avenue. To honour Moe's memory, a donation can be made to The Manitoba Lung Association, Siloam Mission or a charity of one's choice. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6

  • Moe was special! He was so respected on the ice and he taught me so much about the game of hockey and how to officiate it. Best of all he was a professional and had fun doing it. Always ready to uplift you and improve you. He is definitely the reason I went Pro and went as far as I did. Unfortunately moving far away I never got to say thank you until now. I have to concur with Rob... • One of my earliest memories of Moe was being at a local rink and hearing my dad brag about his cousin out on the ice reffing the game and waiting to talk with him after the game. Moe always had a smile on his face and was keenly interested in what was going on in everyone's life. Although never often enough, it was always nice to see him and chat. Rest in peace Moe. • Moe was a special guy in the hockey community, he was a part of the referee family for as long as I can remember. Working Junior B games with him back in the day was always a treat.
