IONA MARGUERITE LOVEDAY 1915 - 2012 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mother, Iona Loveday, on Monday, December 10, 2012 at the age of 97, peacefully with family at her side, in her home, Oakview Extended Care Nursing Home. Iona was predeceased by her husband Russell in February 2000. Iona is survived by one brother Jack Roberts of St. Thomas, Ontario and a sister Janet Toth of London, Ontario, her two sons, Bill and his wife Joyce, their children Patrick and wife Alison with daughter Sydney, and Alandra with her two daughters Kayla and Katie, of Edmonton. Rey and his wife Gloria, with their two daughters Jenna and Ashley of Winnipeg. Mother was born in Toronto, Ontario on February 4, 1915. She moved to London, Ontario as a child where she met the love of her life, Russell. They were married in May 1937. Mother and Dad spent most of their married life with Dad in the Canadian Air Force. They lived in such places as London, Ontario, St. Johns, NB, Lachine, Quebec, Paris, France, Zweibruken, Germany and Winnipeg, Manitoba. The first few years of their marriage were really put to the test with the Second World War, and the long absences of Father as he did his part for the effort in the Canadian Air Force. Their first son Bill was born on December 24, 1939, and Rey was born October 4, 1947. On their retirement, they decided to settle in Winnipeg. Mother enjoyed travelling very much and in her years in Winnipeg did a lot of trailering with a number of trailer clubs. In their retirement Mother and Father enjoyed many Bus Tours and a Boat Cruise. Mother enjoyed her church life and loved meeting and socializing with people. In the early years at the nursing home, Iona was an active member of the Resident Council where she and four other members addressed the concern of the nursing home on behalf of those who were not able to speak for themselves. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her two sons and their wives, four grand-children and spouses, three great-grand-children, a brother and sister, and many friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nadine and the other staff on 3 North for the years of loving care they gave Mother. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. There will be a memorial service on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. also at Thomson Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a favourite charity. Those we love don't go away They walk beside us every day Unseen, unheard, but always near Still loved, still missed, and very dear. Gone but never forgotten, Although we are apart, Your spirit lives within us, Forever in our hearts.
