MIRIAM WEIDMAN On December 9, 2012, Miriam Weidman slipped the surly bonds of Earth at the age of 88. A private funeral was held on December 11 at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. She is survived by her two sons, Jim and Lorne (Lois) and her two grandchildren Danielle and Justin. Miriam was an alumnus of St. John's High School and later in life earned a Masters Degree in Psychology at the University of Manitoba. Miriam was a true intellectual and a disciple of Ayn Rand, and Ayn's philosophy of Objectivism. She particularly enjoyed spreading her beliefs to any and all that were interested, especially her fellow university students. She was the kind of woman whom everyone, young and old, loved to visit and discuss the world with. Miriam had many friends and acquaintances over her long life and was always outgoing. She was very sensitive and had a passion for classical music and the arts. Her wonderful sense of humour and laughter was contagious. Our family has many fond memories of her special Wednesday night family dinners. She taught her children and grandchildren to have a lust for life, and to face it head-on. We will always remember you and miss you dearly. Rest well Mum/Baba.

When I was 14 and 15 years old, Miriam Weidman astonished me by holding adult level conversations between myself and an older person. I d drop in on her son, Jim, but if he was not home yet, it was typical to sit and drink coffee with Miriam, discussing life seriously, and philosophizing. Even then I knew some educated people. But she was the first in my experience who was something like a real intellectual. She was steeped in psychology and philosophy, and knew how to make these relevant to a teenage boy. Miriam knew intellectuals didn’t just acquire knowledge; a real intellectual is forever on a search for new knowledge, different modes of understanding, and especially that which comes from within. - Posted by: David Rusen (Close family friend) on: Oct 24, 2023
