Born in Halifax, N.S., Dad served in the air force during the Second World War, then moved to Manitoba where he met Doris. He worked with the Department of Highways for the Province of Manitoba. During that time, he returned to university, completing his B.A. at The University of Winnipeg in 1974. While in Manitoba, Dad took his family on many camping trips across Canada and the U.S.A. After his retirement in 1976, Al and Doris moved to B.C. where they spent their time traveling between their home in Surrey and their leisure home in Birch Bay, Washington. After the passing of Doris in 1981, Dad married Dolly, residing in Abbotsford, B.C. until her death in 2004. He then relocated to Maple Ridge, B.C. living with his son, Alan and wife Debbie before taking up residence at Willow Manor. He and his family were very proud when he started a new hobby creating paper-sculpture art work. Returning to Manitoba, Al resided at Amber Meadow Retirement Residence and the Middlechurch Home. Dad will be remembered for his caring personality and his subtle sense of humour. The family would like to thank the staff at the Middlechurch Home for all their care and concern for Dad during his stay with them. In keeping with Dad's wishes, cremation services will take place with a private family celebration of his life in Manitoba and in B.C. at a later date.
