JOAN WHITE (nee MAINMAN) July 6, 1924 - December 16, 2012 As the sun rose on December 16, 2012, with family at her side, Joan slipped quietly away into the arms of her Lord. Joan was born in Manitoba. She married Stanley Good in 1947 after which they moved to the Okanagan for several years, returning to Winnipeg in 1956 where they raised their family. After Stan's death in 1984, Joan moved to Nanaimo where she met and married her second husband, H. James White in 1989. Joan was predeceased by her first husband Stanley Good (1984), her second husband Jim White (2001) and Jim's son Blair. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by many, including her sister Blanche Ablett (Winnipeg), her brother-in-law Roy Good (Saskatoon), her three children, Jean Hamilton (Don Schultz), Janet Robson, and Grant Good (Diane), her grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher and Michael Hamilton; Kathleen and Jessica Robson; Jason and Trevor Good and all their families as well as Jim's children Reid, Kenton, Bruce and Margaret and their families, and Joan's many nieces and nephews. Joan enjoyed and was accomplished at many sports, particularly golf that she continued to play into her 80s; gardening and handicrafts (especially knitting and quilting). She was a past member of the Bowen Park Seniors Quilters and a member of the Crescent Chapter No. 10 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had a gentle heart and gave generously to many organizations in support of those less fortunate. The family gives special thanks to Mom's dear friend Mary Currie who provided so much love and caring over the last years and to Father Brian Evans of St. Paul's Anglican Church for his prayers and support. They also wish to thank the staff at Woodgrove Manor for their compassionate care and for making Mom's last days as comfortable as possible. At Joan's request there will be no service, however the family will have a private farewell in the New Year.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Jean, Janet & Grant - As Liz said, our families have been connected for a long time. I remember the many evenings both our parents spent around our Ruby St dining room table playing card games. Once Joan & Stan moved to Pilot Mound it was an easy jaunt for Mom and Dad over to their place. Sundays when I was over to Mom's I would get a recounting of what had happened that week and Joan's calls from the coast were always a highlight. Sometimes she would phone right away to share really interesting news!! Joan was a wonderful person, so full of common sense ans willing to share. I certainly enjoyed her e-mails when she still had the computer. She will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Cathy Savage (Friend of the family) on: Jan 14, 2013

  • Our families have been connected for such a long time, and we have had tons of wonderful memories together. I won't forget the good visits we had when Joan & Stan lived in White Rock and we visited them often. Also the visits to the little house in Pilot Mound where they were such proud home owners! I know she missed my Mom and the conversations that they always had. What a great friendship they had all these years - and it all started with having to be chaperones at our grade 7 dance! She will be missed. - Posted by: Liz Shepherd (friend of the family) on: Jan 03, 2013
