Date of Passing: Dec 27, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD JOSEPH DRZYSTEK November 30, 1937 With sadness we announce the passing of Ed Drzystek on December 27, 2012, after a lengthy battle with heart failure. He leaves to mourn his wife Joey and daughters Sandra, Shelley and Sheree, his brother John (Leona), niece Karli (Jeremy), nephew Wade (Brooke) and their sons Odin, Ryder and Grayson. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Pauline Drzystek and his brother Emile. Ed was born in Poland and the war years took him to Siberia, Persia, Uganda and finally England before the family immigrated to Canada in 1948. They settled in Limerick, Saskatchewan where he completed his High School. He began his 37 year career with the CIBC in Assiniboia, SK. He was transferred to Winnipeg in 1961 and worked in numerous branches around the city retiring in 1993 as manager of One Lombard Place. As a young man, his favourite things were hockey, baseball, football and curling. In later years he became an avid armchair sports fan and news buff. His favourite things were work, gardening around his home in the city and cottage in Matlock, travelling, fishing, cribbage, good laughs and time spent with family and friends. He was known for his dedication, optimistic outlook and his work ethic both at the office and at home. He will be remembered for his big voice, hearty laugh, generosity and sense of fair play. His girls were the loves of his life. He will be missed by his family, friends and the many people whose lives he touched. We extend our thanks to his long time doctors Al Schroeder and Robert Kroeker for their care, support and kindness during his long illness. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation-Cardiac Research. A Celebration of Life will be held at North Kildonan United Church at 174 Pentland Street in North Kildonan on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 1:30 p.m.

My greatest regret is not having spent more time with cousin Ed. His wonderful sense of humour and smile will live with me forever, as I hope it will with others who have had the pleasure of knowing him. Joey and girls, as well as John and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you, and am comforted by the fact that the spirit of a wonderful man will live on in your hearts, as it will in mine. I am so sorry that I was out of town and did not hear of his passing until today, otherwise I would be there with you to celebrate the life of a very special man. - Posted by: Stan Drystek (Cousin) on: Dec 30, 2012

Ed was a man of integrity. He beamed when he talked about his family and enjoyed having a laugh with all he came into contact with. Ed was known as a straight-forward guy, "tell it like it is" , however his caring character guided his life. We will miss his smile and joyful laughter and the treasure of friendship we shared. Celebrating Ed's life is a Blessing and the Angels in Heaven will have a new Polish voice in the choir. Our most sincere sympathy to Joey, daughters, family and friends. - Posted by: Ron & Cyndee St.Hilaire (Friends) on: Dec 29, 2012

Dear Joey & family, I would like to offer you my deepest condolences on the loss of Ed. He was one special man who touched my life in the most momentous way at CIBC One Lombard. We would take turns chatting it up on our morning rounds and he was the most positive and upbeat person. Everyone loved him! I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to meet you...ever so briefly...when you and Ed came to my Booksigning at Coles, Kildonan Place. Once again, after so many years, Ed's vibrant personality brightened my day. God bless you, Dolores - Posted by: Dolores Ayotte (Fellow Employee at the CIBC) on: Dec 29, 2012

We are sorry to learn of Ed's passing. He was such a friendly, welcoming man any time we met. He will be missed very much. As a banker, he was a wonderful mentor who always had one's wellbeing, career and interest at the forefront. Ed was the type of person who was always receptive to consultation and always made one feel that they were the most important person in any conversation. As the obituary reads, he was very dedicated and highly motivated at whatever task he undertook. Family; may you find strength and comfort in the wonderful memories of a truly great man. - Posted by: Bill & Susan Finlay (Banking & Family friends) on: Dec 29, 2012
