Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTOON (TONY) EYER May 11, 1927 - December 28, 2012 Peacefully, with his family by his side, Tony Eyer passed away at the age of 85 years at the Grace Hospital. He was predeceased by his mother, Geertriu, and father, Jacob, his brothers Joop and Jaap (Jack) and sister, Rietje Jas. Tony will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Janny, and his children John (Rita), Gertie (Doug), Jack (Roxie), Janet (Frank), and Tony (Karen) as well as his grandchildren Erin, Ryan, Rob (Crystal), Carrie (Carey), Adam (Stephanie), Derek, Robyn, Evan, Trevor, Shaylyn, and Eric as well as great-grandchildren Brittney, Erica, and Isabelle. Tony was born in Zevernaar, the Netherlands. He began his career as a chef working for the Holland American Cruise Line on the Niew Amsterdam at the age of 17. After the Second World War he was a prominent chef at Amsterdam's famous Five Flies Restaurant. In 1953, he immigrated from Amsterdam to Winnipeg with his wife and two oldest children. Tony had a long and very distinguished career in the food and beverage industry working at the Town and Country, Continental Catering, the Marlborough Hotel, the Ramada Inn, and the Fort Garry Hotel to name a few. He also shared his culinary expertise with his children and grandchildren as he prepared the most sumptuous of meals for every family event as a true demonstration of his sincere adulation. Tony loved life to the fullest, enjoying his work, travelling, gardening, painting and every minute with his family. Opa will be remembered for his unsinkable positive nature and incredible ability to survive best portrayed in these words When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile. His complete devotion to his beloved wife, Janny, no matter how challenging the times, will be a cherished memory and inspiration to us all. A memorial service celebrating his life will take place on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn , 4000 Portage Avenue. Special thanks to Dr. Stephenson, the Palliative Care Team of Dr. P. Czakowski, Dr. St. Godard, nurses Rachel and Jay, for the wonderful care of our husband and father. Thank you as well to Reverend Gordon Shields and Major Gordon Jarvis for all of their assistance at this most difficult time.
