ROBERT JOSEPH MCKEE SR. -
Date of Passing: Dec 31, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT JOSEPH MCKEE SR. 1914 - 2012 Gramps left us the morning of December 31, 2012. His oldest grandchild Chris was close by. Gramps, Dad, you leave a void in our lives that can never be replaced. Grandma died eight years ago; both of them outlived any of their immediate family members. We hope they are together now as that is what he had been looking forward to for quite a while. We hope he has picked her up in his brand new Cadillac and taken her out for dinner. Robert is survived by his son Robert (Jo), Chris (Alison) and Tim (Christie); son Micheal (Anne Marie), Darcie and Taylor; son Peter (Wendy), Danielle; with loving memory for son Tom. Robert has one great-granddaughter Madison. He will also be missed by sister-in-law Alice McKee. Robert will be remembered for his dry sense of humour, his love for fishing, his endurance for golf and his enjoyment of playing poker with friends. He also took pride in his cars and quite enjoyed driving on long trips, which was nurtured by his early days driving semi trailers out of Labatt's Brewery. Robert worked for Labatt's for 40 years, first in London and Toronto then on to Winnipeg. He started at washing walls then semi truck delivery, moving his way up along with a transfer in 1960 as the Western Canada Warehouse and Transport Manager. He retired in 1979. Robert served in the Naval Reserve, stationed in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia during the Second World War. Dad and mom loved to golf and do some travelling. They introduced us to Lake of the Woods where his two grandsons, Chris and Tim, learned to fish and hunt. Gramps was an avid fisherman. His grandsons made sure Gramps had many opportunities to get the big one . The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of CD1 Riverview Health Centre for all their kindness towards Robert for the past few years. Special thanks to Maureen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverview Foundation, CD1, Recreation Department. An Afternoon to Remember Robert will take place at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Thank you Dad for the summer evening drives to The Dairy Queen. Thanks for taking me to the drive in theatre with you and Mom. Thanks for the fishing trips with Charley Clark on the Winnipeg River. Thanks for taking me to the many wonderful beaches and road trips. Thanks for always being there when I was in need. Love always, Peter - Posted by: Peter McKee (Youngest son) on: Jan 05, 2013

Robert, Mike and Peter, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. He was an amazing man, I have lots of memories of time you lived on Ridout Street. Our summers spent on Manitulin Island are some of my favorites. Bill and I were lucky to have visited with Bob and Bertha on our honeymoon, hard to believe that was almost 40 years ago. Take care and our thoughts are with you at this time. - Posted by: Pam Young (Stock) (niece) on: Jan 04, 2013
