Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBEVERLEY JUNE (MITCHELL) LINKLATER Beverley Linklater, peacefully at West Park Manor Nursing Home, Winnipeg, MB, on December 28, 2012 at the age of 88 years. Dear wife of the late Ross Fletcher Linklater, Bev was predeceased by her brothers Garth and Blair Mitchell. She is survived by, and will be lovingly remembered by her children Fraser (Joan), Shelagh (Don Nowicki) and Kerry (John De Pape), and cherished grandchildren Shannon Linklater (Jamie Moses), Kevin Linklater, Sam and Adam Nowicki and Alexandra, Nicola and Andrew De Pape. Daughter of Dr. Harry and Dorothy Mitchell, Beverley was born June 30, 1924 in London, ON. She grew up with her two brothers in Sioux Lookout, ON where her father was the town doctor. After high school, Beverley enrolled in the nursing program at Port Arthur General Hospital. Upon graduation in 1945, she went on to do post-graduate work in pediatrics in Montreal. Bev married Fletch in 1948 and continued nursing while he completed his engineering degree. After raising their family, Bev returned to work full-time at Central Park Lodge and later Deer Lodge Hospital. Bev loved helping people and did extensive volunteer work in the community with Home and School, the St. James YMCA and the Boy Scouts. Her volunteer activities continued after retirement when she knit mittens for charity and worked with new Canadians. An avid traveler, Beverley enjoyed camping trips with her family every summer and, after retirement, extensive traveling overseas. Always interested in education, she took a writing course in her later years. To keep family history alive, she wrote two books: an autobiography and a biography of her husband Fletch. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks for the kindness and compassion of the staff of West Park Manor. A memorial service will be held in the spring (date to be announced) at Cloverdale United Church in Cloverdale, MB. Memorial donations may be made in Beverley's honour to a charity of the donor's preference.

I was saddened to read of your mother's obituary in the Free Press. My sincerest condolences to the family. I lived with the family in the early 60's while I attended Grant Park High School. I remember Kerry was only 2 years old at that time. I don't think any of you will remember me it has been so many years ago. I would like to attend your mother's memorial service in the spring and I would like to have someone contact me before then. I always had intentions to visit your parents but my plans never did come to fruition. I lived in Vancouver for a number of years. I live in Fisher River now that I have retired from the Federal government. Your mother will always remain in my memories, I consider her as one of my greatest mentors, I learned so much from her, especially baking every Saturday morning. She was a special lady. She will always live in my heart as well in all of yours. God Bless you all. Sincerely Franna (Kerry called me that) - Posted by: Frances Harrison nee Hudson (Friend) on: Jan 16, 2013

Kerry - so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I have many fond memories of times at the house, sleep-overs in the trailer, and ski-doing in the country. My sympathies to you and all the family. Sincerely, Joanne - Posted by: Joanne Quirk-Williams (Friend) on: Jan 07, 2013

Kerry - Floyd and I enjoyed your Mum and Dad so very much - over coffee or just visiting in the neighbourhood - laughing about how many pairs of shoes Fletch went through during his many walking adventures - and enjoying reading Bev's writings and hearing about her travels - Fletch and Floyd enjoyed their golf games too ! They were very special Bruce Ave residents and will be missed by many old friends - What a wonderful legacy they have left in their children and grandchildren - They were truly a wonderful example of love and marriage ! I worked with Bev. at Deer Lodge in the 70's and heard much about her life and wonderful children...she was an intelligent and loving person. I visited her at the care home about 3 years ago and saw her eyes still beautiful blue but with no light of recognition in them.My mother was the same in the next ward.My heart goes out to all of you...you've lost someone very dear. - Posted by: cOLLEEN bERRY (nURSE AT DEER LODGE) on: Jan 05, 2013

My Mom, Pearl Leslie and Bev shared a ward having two of their babies at the same time. They were good friends and stayed in touch after our family moved from Kane Ave N, Silver Heights to Waverley St in R Hts. Mo, always enjoyed time spent with Bev and Fletch. I wish I could remember stories but alas no. I may have babysat one or more of you at one time. My husband, Frank and I live in Sherwood Park, AB. and winter in Yuma, AZ. We have 3 daughters, who all live fairly close to us with 5 grandchildren and another on the way. Pearl passed away at 86, in Riverview, on Feb 22, 2010 from Cancer. At her request, her body was donated to the U of M Anatomy Dept for medical research. The family scattered her ashes on the practice fairway at Assiniboine Golf Course where the ashes of my Dad, Don, 77 (May 20, 2000 from Cancer) and my youngest brother, James David, aged 17 (May 28, '77 after a car accident)were scattered. There are 9 remaining siblings. 6 in the Winnipeg area, one in Victoria, one in Toronto and myself, the eldest. There were 18 grandchildren and now 9 great grandchildren. - Posted by: Maggie Carr aka Margaret Anne nee Leslie (daughter of personal friends, Pearl & Don Leslie of Linklater's) on: Jan 05, 2013

Bev was always a great friend to our family. Our kids enjoyed her and Fletch whenever we got together. They always treated our kids like their own. Such a lively lady and always upbeat. Our family will truly miss her. - Posted by: Doug DePape (Friend) on: Jan 04, 2013
