MARK BEN ZION WALL, M.D. Dr. Mark Wall died peacefully at age 95 on December 27, 2012 at his home in Phoenix, Arizona. He is survived by his sister Ruth Portigal, sons Richard (Robbi), Laurence (Roslyn), Murray, Bruce (Suzi), along with his grandchildren Jana (Mark), Michael (Katie), Elana, Alexa, Matthew, Justin, Daniel and Jonah and great-grandchildren Mason and Ella. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Elsa, in 1988. He was also predeceased by his parents, Hyman and Betty Wall and by his sister Pearl Berman. He is fondly remembered by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Ettie and Earl Robinson, Penny and Gerald Kalef, Reisa Libling, Marshall and Tannis Peikoff, by many nieces and nephews and by his dear friend, Estelle Gracer. Mark Wall was born in Winnipeg, Canada in 1917. He graduated from the University of Manitoba medical school in 1944, then served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. Later, he worked as a country doctor in the village of Dodsland, Saskatchewan. He met his future wife, Elsa Peikoff, during a visit to Winnipeg. They married soon after in 1951 and had 37 happy years together before Elsa's untimely death in 1988. Mark Wall worked nearly 30 years in Winnipeg as an obstetrician and gynecologist, delivering thousands of babies and using his surgical skills to improve the lives of thousands of women. He practised gynecology for another 14 years in Phoenix, while also serving as Chief of Staff at Maryvale Samaritan Hospital and with the Tumor Board, retiring at age 79. Former patients still warmly recall his care, understanding and compassion. Thanks to the staff at the Terraces of Phoenix Assisted Living and Memory Care Units for their care and support.
