After all these many years, I'm remembering John as I admire one of his pottery pieces sent to me after my husband's death. Long time friends and neighbours on Craig Street, hosts on Mayne island and guests at our wedding in 2008. - Posted by: kathy rayner (friend) on: Sep 19, 2023

I went to MIT/MIAA with John and we were good friends. He stopped by and stayed with me when he came through Calgary on his way to find potters in BC. I told him about Kelowna where there was lots of potters. When I retired and moved back to Manitoba I tried to reconnect but I couldn't track him down. I am sorry I couldn't find him, we were good friends back in the MIT/MIAA days. - Posted by: Brian Erickson (friend and fellow student) on: Apr 27, 2015

I just found out that John has passed. So sorry to hear of it. I remember the days of the Male Gender very well. John's lead guitar and calm, steady presence were key to the group's success and general fun times. RIP John. - Posted by: Howard Markson (Former band mate) on: Jun 18, 2013

So sorry to hear of John's passing at such a young age. I was a member of the original "Male Gender" band back in the 60s and I hold fond memories of John. Great guitarist and, more importantly to me, he was a 'true rocker'. The band borrowed my Dad's really old pickup truck to haul our gear around on the weekends in the "Community Club Dance" era. It was a great time. Bachman, Turner, Cummings, The Guess Who, Neil Young, The Devrons, ... Winnipeg was truly rocking in the 60s. John was the designated driver for the pickup, always accompanied by myself and his great girlfriend at the time. Other members of the band included Ken Smutylo (drums), Gene on bass, Howard on rhythm guitar, and myself on keyboard. Sid Soronow was our manager. The good 'ol days. Glad I knew John. - Posted by: Ken Sala (Friend from yesteryear) on: Jan 15, 2013
