KATHERINE WOWCHUK August 18, 1901 - January 8, 2013 A journey that began so long ago has come to an abrupt but peaceful end on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Fisher Personal Care Home. It is with great sadness, but loving memories, that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother at the tender age of 111 years. Katherine was predeceased by her parents, her husband Joseph (1954), her common-law husband, Nick Chopey (1977), her one and only sister Tekla Kibsey, her daughter Anne Lasota (1992), son-in-law, Ed Lasota (2000), her son Walter (2001) and daughter-in-law Nellie (2012). She is survived by her son Bill of British Columbia, her daughter Elsie Kolbuck (John) of St. Andrews, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Born August 18, 1901 in Austria, Katherine immigrated with her parents and sister to Canada in 1914 and settled in the Interlake. She married Joseph Wowchuk in 1917 and they raised their four children on a homestead in Fisher Branch. She was a hard worker, lived life with a strong spirit and was blessed with good health and vitality. She lived with pride and independence until June, 1999 when she moved into the Fisher Personal Care Home. Katherine always said that was "the best place to live". A heartfelt "thank you" to all of the staff of the Fisher Personal Care Home for loving Mom and taking good care of her. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Fisher Branch at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Christian Congregational Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fisher Personal Care Home Foundation Inc., Box 548, Fisher Branch, MB R0C 0Z0, or charity of your choice.
