Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACK ALFRED SEED, QC BA December 8, 1915 - December 11, 2012 Lawyer, Teacher, Father, Grandfather, Second World War Naval Lieutenant Passed away peacefully at his Toronto home, as was his wish, on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 after celebrating his 97th birthday with his family. Jack leaves his loving wife Peggy (nee Margaret Doreen Jackson of Winnipeg), of nearly 69 years (married January 6, 1944 at St. Luke's Anglican, Winnipeg), daughter of John and Nell Rae Jackson of Winnipeg (Thomas Jackson and Sons Contracting), and his four children: Tony, Debby, John and Julia (Will McIlvride), all of Toronto; five grandchildren: Martin (of Atlanta), Thomas (Alex), Nicholas, Catherine and Jennifer (all of Toronto); great-granddaughter Makenna (of Burlington); paternal nieces Nancy (Tom Crawford of Collingwood) and Sandra (Don Hammersmark of Los Angeles), and many others in Winnipeg and the Toronto area. Jack was predeceased by his parents W. A. and Elizabeth Helena Seed of Colborne, and his only brother Arnold (Monnie) of Toronto. He was very fortunate to have Marissa Gimena, devoted caregiver in his final years, as well as Lida Muguerza. Jack also leaves his special buddy Winston, his cat, the good little fella . Jack was born in Cobourg, Ontario, was educated at the Colborne High School and the Peterborough Normal School; received Honours B.A. in Political Science and Economics from Trinity College, University of Toronto 1938; graduated Osgoode Hall Law School 1946 and awarded Queen's Council 1954. As a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy, he did convoy duty during the Battle of the Atlantic. After teaching at Appleby College in Oakville, and in Cochrane, Jack enjoyed a distinguished law career for over 50 years, heading his corporation law firm Seed Nield Long and Howard. He was a man of integrity whose word was his bond, facing any adversity with his typical stoicism and dry humour, making friends from all walks of life. As family patriarch, he was well-known for his family speeches and storytelling, valued education above all, and loved his Meaford farm and many world travels with Peggy. The funeral and reception to honour his life and work was held at St. James Cathedral on December 19, 106 King Street East, Toronto, with interment that followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery on a beautiful sunny day. In lieu of flowers, friends and colleagues may wish to remember him with a donation to the Jack A. Seed, Q.C.
