Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENDRIKA (MARIJKE) E. VOGEL (nee VAN OUWERKERK) June 6, 1928 - January 5, 2013 Peacefully, Marijke passed away in Victoria, BC at the age of 84. Marijke will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 57 years Kees, their sons and daughters-in-law Chuck and Sandra, Bart and Barb and Rafe and Sharon as well as grandchildren Lara, Jan, Sara, Vanessa (Mike), Lauren, Stephannee and Neil. She will also be lovingly remembered by her family in The Netherlands and the many good friends she made throughout her life. Marijke was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and married Kees Vogel in 1955. Their first son, Chuck, was born in 1956, and one year later, they emigrated to Winnipeg, where Kees had an engineering job waiting for him. The family grew with the arrival of sons Bart in 1958 and Rafe in 1960. Marijke lived her life with enthusiasm and had a welcoming spirit and a positive outlook. She worked in various capacities as a speech therapist with the Manitoba Rehabilitation Hospital, the province's Child Development Services and the Child Guidance Clinic of Winnipeg before retiring in 1985. She was a founding member and the first president of The Manitoba Speech and Hearing Association. In addition to her outgoing, friendly nature, Marijke was known for her love of entertaining and cooking, reading, knitting, sewing, art collecting, as well as singing in the choir and playing the flute. She loved her grandchildren dearly, and made each one a personalized teddy bear. In 1986, Marijke and Kees retired to Victoria, BC, where they were very involved with the Metropolitan United Church and many dear friends. They lived a full life and together faced the challenges that Marijke's dementia brought during her final years. A celebration of Marijke's life was held in Victoria, BC on Thursday, January 10, 2013. Flowers are gratefully declined.

Lieve Familie van Marijke, Namens mijn moeder , Joke van Meurs , wil ik jullie vertellen dat zij hele goede herinneringen aan haar beste jeugdvriendin Marijke heeft. In 1954 was Marijke getuige van bij haar huwelijk. Ze heeft ook fluit gespeeld in de dienst. Mijn moeder was vaak op bezoek op de schansweg in rotterdam en in voorschoten bij oom Bert en tante Riek. Mijn moeder had graag contact gehouden. Maar door drukke gezinnen en tijden is dat er niet van gekomen. Met ontroering heeft ze kennisgenomen van de mooie bovenstaande tekst .
