NORMA LUCILLE MACLEOD (nee BRUCE) Norma passed away peacefully on January 3, 2013 at the age of 87. She was loved and will be missed by John, her husband of 64 years, children Janet, Bruce, Callum, Douglas, Laura, Megan (Rob), grandchildren Andrew, Katie, Tom, Lyndon and Daniel, and great-grandchildren Charlie and Penelope. She was predeceased by her beloved son Rob. Born in Winnipeg on May 6, 1925, Norma earned degrees in Home Economics and Education at the University of Manitoba, where she was well-known as a singer. Over 31 years she raised seven children in prairie locales from small towns to big cities to a ranch in Alberta's Porcupine Hills - and she never stopped singing. She was a teacher, an extraordinary seamstress and knitter, a tireless helpmate and mother, an avid volunteer, an unsinkable optimist, and always someone who thrived among people and loved to make and nurture friendships. She leaves behind many friends on Mayne Island, BC, where she lived for 20 years. The family thanks the staff of the Neurosciences Unit of Victoria General Hospital for their excellent care. A memorial service was held on Mayne Island on January 8. In memory of Norma, donations may be made to UNICEF.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Just wanted to express sympathy from my family and all the older residents of the Springpoint Community. Norma was a wonderful and very active ladies club member in the years that they lived here. Many of us remember her fondly. I have printed out this obituary and will read it at our next ladies club meeting on March 12th. This picture of her is great-Such a beautiful big smile and I always admire the fact that her hair stayed dark into old age. Heaven has definitely welcomed a beautiful soul. - Posted by: Pat Ness (old neighbor and President of the Springpoint Community Society) on: Feb 25, 2013
