RONALD DERESKI With heartfelt sadness Ron's family announces his passing on January 11, 2013, only four days before his 50th birthday. Despite a determined battle Ron succumbed to injuries sustained in a violent attack on June 20, 2008. Ron was born in Wawa, Ontario, the youngest son of Kay (nee Campbell) and Bill Dereski. He was predeceased by his father, and will be greatly missed by the love of his life Judy, her daughter Megan, son Joey and grandson Jayden. Also left to mourn Ron are his mother Kay; brother Terry (Kathy), Sarah and Laura; brother Kelvin (Diana), Sean and Daniel; brother Lisle (Jan), Will, Beckah (Greg, Carson, Trinity) and Alex; Judy's mother Betty (Russ); father Ron (Sally); sister Jean (Gilles), Patrick and Amanda; brother Jim (Arlene), Jenny and Jason; close friend Mike, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Following his school years in Pinawa, Manitoba Ron worked in Bissett and Marathon, Ontario before settling in Winnipeg. At a young age Ankylosing Spondylitis required Ron to seek light duty work. He trained at South Winnipeg Technical in Auto-cad Drafting, working at Motor Coach Industries, until work was no longer possible. Prior to losing mobility Ron was a talented guitar player, with a passion for all things related to computers, who loved his dogs Sparky and Bear. Despite his progressive disabilities Ron loved life and maintained a positive attitude that was truly inspirational. He continued to enjoy time spent with family and friends, and especially liked getting out for walks and busing around Winnipeg. He was always grateful to Judy for her constant companionship and care. Special appreciation goes to the doctors, nurses, rehab and home care workers who helped to make Ron's last years as comfortable as possible. A funeral service for Ron will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to the Canadian Paraplegic Association, Manitoba Inc., 211 - 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5. So sorry for your loss Kay, Judy and family. The Stonewall Campbell family and Dereski family goes back many years to when Kay's dad "Army Bill" and my grandfather "George Campbell" came to Canada from Scotland together. Sharing the same family name in a new country they became like family. As kids growing up our parents would share visits back and forth from Pinawa to Stonewall. During these visits Ron and I would spend many hrs riding bikes, mini bikes and horses...many fond memories. On behalf of Verna and Keith Campbell family our sincere sympathy on Ron's passing.
