FLORENCE CLAIRE LLOYD (SIMPSON) On Sunday, January 13, 2013, Claire passed away peacefully at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 88. Claire is survived by her loving husband, Ralph, of 65 years, and by her daughters: Diane (Ray) Fulford, Jan (Murray) Coates and Sandy (Ron) Handkamer. Claire had seven grandchildren: Rai-Ann (Neil) Hulme, Wes Fulford, Grant Fulford, Ryan (Michelle) Coates, Aron Coates (Francine), Kristen Handkamer and Brian Handkamer plus two great-grand-children: Elliott and Findley Hulme. Claire was predeceased by her sister Mildred (Bill) Bowie; brother Leslie (Muriel) Simpson; parents Alonzo and Lillian Simpson, Harry and Gladys Lloyd and nephew John Simpson. Claire will be lovingly remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She cherished the time that she spent with her children and grandchildren and was very proud of them. Claire was an artist and was involved with the palette club for several years where she experimented with many mediums. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing bridge, dogs, flowers and all forms of nature. She loved to travel and had many wonderful trips abroad with Ralph. Claire was a lifelong resident of Fort Garry, and longtime member of the Fort Garry United church where she was very active in the U.C.W. and C.G.I.T. She spent many happy summers with family and friends at the cabin that she and Ralph built on West Hawk Lake and passed that love of the lake onto her children who each have a cottage on West Hawk today. A special thank you to the staff at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre for their care, compassion and support. Cremation has already taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • We have enjoyed being friends of your family since our parents all met back in the 1940's. All the visits to West Hawk Lake while we grew up were great fun! My Mom Ailsa and I were honoured to attend your parents 60th anniversary also at beautiful West Hawk. We were so sorry to hear that your Mom had passed away. Sending our heartfelt sympathy from all the "Heap" family to all the "Lloyd" family, Jane Romaniuk and family, Sue Somerville and family, and Murray Heap and family - Posted by: Jane (Heap) Romaniuk (family friend) on: Jan 26, 2013

  • Your mom will be remembered by all the Sandra Bay "kids" as a gentle soft spoken woman who was always friendly and sweet. I know you will all miss her greatly and I send my sincere condolences to all her children and grandchildren. Meredith - Posted by: Meredith McArthur (Sandra Bay neighbour) on: Jan 20, 2013

  • Diane, Jan & Sandy: Very sorry to hear of your mother's passing, but glad that I was able to speak with her and your father just before Christmas, while visiting a relative at the Golden Door. I have fond memories of growing up on Sandra Bay, and often think of all the parents that helped all the kids on the street grow up. I appreciated your mom's soft spoken and quiet way. - Posted by: Margot MacInnes () on: Jan 20, 2013
