JAMES (JIM) STEWART With heavy hearts, the Stewart family announces that James (Jim) Stewart passed away quietly in his sleep on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Jim is survived by his daughter, Morag, sons Kenneth and Paul, grandsons Donald Stewart and Lee Worobec, daughter-in-law Jane Nicholls and son-in-law James Worobec. Jim was predeceased by his beloved daughter Margaret Ann (Worobec) in 2001 and wife Margaret in 2002. Jim will be missed by many extended family members in Scotland, including the McNamaras, Murrays, Brannons, Barclays and Campbells. Jim was born in Paisley, Scotland on April 29, 1932. Jim and Margaret were married on August 1, 1956 in Paisley and immigrated to Canada in 1957 with baby Morag. They initially settled in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where Margaret Ann and Paul were born. They moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1963 and Kenneth was born later that year. Jim worked as an electrical technologist and project manager at UMA Engineering Group, consulted independently for a few years and retired from The Northwest Company. Jim's special interests in life centered on family, faith, football and a love of traveling his adopted country. Wife Margaret was the love of his life and a constant companion in his travels. He sacrificed much to give all of his children a Catholic school education and promoted lifelong learning through his own pursuit of a deeper faith and understanding. He was immensely proud of his grandsons and their academic and athletic pursuits. Jim was an active member in the St. Bernadette Parish for many decades, assisting with mass and serving on the Parish Council. After retirement, Jim volunteered with the Irish Association of Manitoba and his beloved Winnipeg Celtic Supporters Club, the same Glasgow football team his Grampa Henry supported and Jim passed the Celtic family tradition on to his son Paul and grandson Donald. The family would like to thank the many excellent health care providers that gave gentle and caring support to Jim in the last few years, with special thanks to Gayle, Dr. Ross McMahon, Denise and Dr. Piotr Czarkowski from CancerCare Manitoba; Kate and Miriam from Homecare; Margaret, Nancy, Mandy and Shannon from Grace Hospice. We also thank the many parishioners, friends and colleagues who visited Jim to brighten his days with their company, especially his youngest friend Benjamin. Funeral services will be led by Monsignor Albert Frechette at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood Road. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2013 with funeral mass commencing at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2013, burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or the Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba Foundation. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO. It was through my mother Sylvia Nakielny that I met Mr. Stewart at St Bernadette. She had great admiration for him and I understand why. After my mother died I had occasion to speak with him at church. I enjoyed meeting him and last time we spoke I told him that he sounded just like Sean Connery. I can still hear him laugh. He was a fine gentleman who will be greatly missed. - Posted by: John Nakielny () on: Jan 22, 2013

I would like to send my condolences to the Stewart family. I knew James as I did all my friends' fathers.. he was DAD. I enjoyed chatting with him about goings on in the world and the things that made us who we were. I will miss him greatly. There's surely a spot in heaven for a man who's carried the sorrows he has. God Bless James Stewart. - Posted by: Claude J Trudel (Family friend) on: Jan 21, 2013
