GLADYS JEAN INGRAHAM (BATEMAN, nee ROSE) May 18, 1911 - January 12, 2013 It is with sadness that we announce the death of Gladys Ingraham at Beacon Hill Lodge at the age of 101. Predeceased by her sisters Capitola and Kathleen, she will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Margaret-Lynne Astwood (Jim), her son Douglas Bateman (Linda), grandsons James and Robert (Alice), granddaughter Marilyn Howden (John), great-grandchildren Elisabeth Rose, Laura, Claire, Eric, Samantha, Keara, Kathleen and Michael and many nieces and nephews. Although born in Quebec, Gladys lived most of her life in Winnipeg where she met and married her first husband, Gordon Bateman. She was employed for many years at the Winnipeg Y.W.C.A. and enjoyed travelling throughout the world with her friends. Gladys was heavily involved in church work at Fort Garry United and was the founder of their Native Concerns Committee. She was instrumental in the publishing of a directory of services and agencies devoted to assisting native people. This directory has since been expanded upon and is still in use today. She was a very caring person and would never turn down an opportunity to help those in need. She was an avid supporter of the performing arts and enjoyed attending the symphony, theatre and ballet. A special thanks to the staff at Beacon Hill Lodge and especially the nursing staff on the 9th floor. In accordance with Gladys' wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will take place at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I was a health care aide student doing my practicum at Beacon Hill Lodge. I worked very closely with Gladys. She was a generous and loving person. Always making sure the staff had a chocolate when they stopped by her room. Rest in peace Gladys. - Posted by: student () on: Jan 31, 2013

  • A wonderfully feisty, funny & bright woman even as a centenarian! I'm very happy that I was able to know her a little bit and sad that I cannot know her better. Deepest sympathy to her extended family. I hope all of you find easy solace in knowing Gladys' mind was sharp & clear and her body, in relatively good health, to the end; in her long life, well & truly lived; and in her love for all of you, which was readily apparent to me. - Posted by: Pamela Meluh (Friend) on: Jan 19, 2013
