Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I met Joe in the mid seventies. He was the uncle of my good friend Darryl Torchia. I was working as an apprentice at Croft Music, for violin repair. If I had only met him once, the lasting memory I have would have been the same. I was in my twenties, he was in his sixties, but, it felt like we were the age. The way he talked to me was as if we’d known each other forever. I made many visits. I loved going into his shop, the smell of leather, dyes, glue, etc., and of course, hearing the violin stories. The stories of the violins he’d acquired, the work he’d done to bring them back to life. Then, he’d always play them, which proved they were alive again. I recall specifically, one violin with a scene on the back, that he had restored. It had been in pieces, literally, many, many pieces. Joe, in my view, resurrected it. Thank you Joe, for the enthusiasm, encouragement and memories that changed my life. - Posted by: Larry Martineau (Friend) on: Mar 17, 2021
