GREGORY CHARLES ELLIS It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful Father, Grandfather, Brother, Son, and cherished friend, Greg Ellis. He succumbed to a courageous year-long battle with throat cancer on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the age of 64, at his home in Winnipeg. He is survived by his two daughters Carla (Tim) and Vanessa (Tim); grandchildren Caiden, Macy and Sawyer; sister Bev; stepmother Anne; nephew Christopher, and numerous cousins and friends from across the country. He was predeceased by his father, Harold (2004) and mother, Jean (1979). Greg was born in Winnipeg and was a long-time resident of the city, despite the love of the open road that kept him away for periods of time. He explored every corner of Canada and traveled the US from coast to coast while working with Cousin's, Penner's, Safeway and Reimer trucking companies. His witty nature and open heart enabled him to make friends wherever he went. His love of the beautiful scenery and landscapes was always captured by a photo and later saved for sharing with those closest to him. He had great love for his daughters and grandchildren, fishing with his friends, word puzzles and trains. Many gracious thank-yous to all doctors, nurses and staff with CancerCare Manitoba and to all friends who were there to stand beside him and see the sun on the dark days. Photos, memories and condolences can be shared with Greg's family by emailing RememberingGregEllis@gmail.com. Cremation has already taken place.

Greg and I shared a part of our lives that is one of the most memorable - our teen years. I remember him as a talented, confident, generous and sometimes mischievous guy and any time spent with him was never dull. Our paths separated over the years but I often thought of him, wondering what his sense of adventure led him into. We shared many of the same friends for awhile and I'm quite sure we will all feel a part of us is missing until we see him again in the arms of the One we all shared a belief in. - Posted by: Reid Galbraith (Friend, school buddy, singing partner) on: Feb 27, 2013

Greg was a good and loyal friend. He was perhaps the most open and (sometimes shockingly) honest person I ever knew. Visits to his house involved late night excursions to nosh at the local Sals then after a short night, a cheerful (not on my part) breakfast ready at 5 AM. We enjoyed many hours together following some plan he cooked up at the edge of crazy. In the last few years we only heard sporadic news of his family woes and joyful reconciliation. He called once in the last year to try to contact a mutual friend but never mentioned his fight with cancer. That was not his style though I would have liked to have visited him. Rest well my buddy. I'll see you again. - Posted by: Ray Hill (friend) on: Feb 11, 2013

Greg was an incredibly intelligent fellow, with a very unique method of looking at things. He was a very good friend to me and I will miss his quirky sense of humour. I got him interested in fishing, and he came to love it. Greg became a part of my larger family by spending time at the cottage and coming to dinners with me. He is missed and admired by all of us. - Posted by: Roland Mollot (Friend) on: Jan 30, 2013

Greg was a long time friend who had a love of travel and made it his career. He was generous to his friends and will be missed by many. - Posted by: Stu MacDonald (Friend) on: Jan 27, 2013

I lived with Greg for a period of just a few months. We got a long great. I work for CP Rail and Greg always asked me about my job, travelling on the trains. I remember one time he phoned me when he was on the road, describing how he was on the highway following a CP Train, right beside him. I had just called him and he told me my ears must have been burning, because he was thinking about me when he seen the train. I worked as a conductor and had told Greg about my travels with the railway. He had a passion for trains as i did. I will miss him, and my condolences go out to your family. - Posted by: Brian Klump (roommate) on: Jan 25, 2013
