HENRY (BUZZY) PHILLIPS
Born: Nov 29, 1943
Date of Passing: Jan 24, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRY (BUZZY) PHILLIPS November 29, 1943 - January 24, 2013 Surrounded by his family and loving wife, Zub (Isabel), Buzzy peacefully went to meet our Lord Jesus in the great Kingdom of Heaven at 9:42 a.m. January 24, 2013. Papa grew up and lived in the Manigotagan, Bissett, Seymourville, and Hollow Water area for most of his life. He pursued a mining career as a young man and became determined to be the best miner he could be. He achieved this goal and became known as one of the best miners around the territory of eastern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. Unfortunately, his mining career came to an abrupt end when a two-ton rock fell on him and crushed his back. This was a source of great suffering all the days of his life after that. Not one to give in to this, he was a tenacious worker that was determined to get the job done no matter what he pursued in support of the community. He worked as a bookkeeper, Store Manager, Education Manager at Wanipigow School, and a fisherman. He always loved nature and spending time down the lake hunting and enjoying God's creation. He had a fish camp on the north side of Black Island and spent many years with Zub and the kids there, especially during Black Island Days. He most recently built a trapping and hunting cabin up along the Sand River for the benefit of local First Nation and Metis hunters and trappers. Most important of all, Papa was a family man and an Elder with strong faith in God and solid character. He taught many lessons in life as a living example; he planted many seeds in others that took root and grew within their hearts. He always taught his family to respect and acknowledge both traditional Aboriginal values and Christianity. He raised 13 children and had 21 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his father (Harry), mother (Edna), sisters (Merle and Carol), mother of his older children (Aurellia), daughters (Sharon and Charity), brother (Lionel), and foster children (Sherman and Richie Baptiste). He is survived by Zub, his wife of 33 years; daughters - Wanda (Clayton), Lisa (John), Bobbie (Gabe), Chantel (Vin), Kateri, Leona, and Joy; Sons - Darrell (Charlene), Cameron, Nathaniel, Dennis, and Richie's two children, Asia and Meleka, and his grandsons Vincent and Baboo (Landon, who he helped raise). As well as his brothers - Archie, Brian, Stewart, and Robert; sisters - Winnie, Geraldine, and Linda. Wake Services to be held at the Phillips' residence in Hollow Water beginning from 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2013, ending at 9:00 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013. There will be a viewing at 1:00 p.m. on January 28, followed by a funeral mass at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Manigotagan, starting at 2:00 p.m, Father Augustine officiating. Following mass, there will be a procession and burial at the old Phillips' homestead near the current graveyard site in Manigotagan. A special miigwetch to the S.I.C.U. staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their compassionate care and to our skaabe's (Skylar, Teewush, Sonnyman, Kathy, Tanis, Rox, Jill, Peter, Shannon and Corey) who sat with our beloved papa throughout his time in the hospital. Thank you to everyone for all their love, support and care throughout our difficult time. The Active Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Josh, Nenny (Brendan), Kyle, Ryan and Bear (Daniel) and his nephews Sonnyman, Sky and Peter. The Honorary pallbearers will be his sons Darrell, Cameron, Nathaniel, Dennis; his sons-in-law Vin, Gabe, Clayton and John; his brothers Archie, Robert and Brian; his nephew Teewush, brothers-in-law Danny and Andy and his good friends Billy and Ian. We look forward to the day when we will meet him again. And so we say to him not "goodbye" - but, farewell, until we meet again . God took the strength of a mountain The majesty of a tree The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea; The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight; The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need. Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it....Dad

It's been 6 years now since I lost my best friend and soulmate. Today as I sit here and think about all the memories we shared, I can now smile and laugh. They were such wonderful years. I count my blessings every day as life is so precious. Continue to intercede for us Buzz, for we all need it. Your presence is still felt at home here as Vincey was saying just this morning," Papa's spirit is here Mama" - Posted by: Isabel Phillips (Wife) on: Jan 24, 2019

Looking for another friend's Obit who recently passed, I had to visit once again my dear dad's obit post. I truly miss my Pa and he impacts my life each and every day. Your memory is all around us Pops as we journey through this life. Your character, your values, your teachings, and most of all your Love for us burns within our hearts and affects us. We always find ourselves reminded of things you said or did. I'm sometimes told by my sisters, "oh you're just like dad" whenever I happen to do or say something that reminds others of you. I can only dream and wish that I can be even 1/2 the man that you were! To all that visit here and remember a great man of the Lord - may God bless you and enrich your lives just as our Papa did! Miigwech! - Posted by: Darrell Phillips (Son) on: Nov 01, 2014

Wow! It's been almost two whole years since we have lot our dear dad! I read the obituaries often, and I find myself finally able to look at his. There is still a hollow place within my heart that continues to hurt and I sit here shedding tears as I write this. I miss him so dearly. After reading Brittany and Kathy's comments, I can almost hear dad strumming his guitar and singing his gospel songs. I recall a time when I was listening to dad singing from upstairs, and I remember stopping to think that I should savour that sound....the sweet sound of his voice...for it was always my biggest fear to lose him, and how I look forward to that sweet day when I will see him again. - Posted by: Chantel (Daughter) on: Oct 10, 2014

It's been a year and a half since Papa left us. I came across his obituary as I was searching for ancestry. I find it hard to read his obituary as I sit here with tears strolling down my face. My Papa was a great man and I miss him so much. I miss sneaking him sweets even though I knew he shouldn't have them. I miss listening to him sing and play his guitar. There are many things I miss about him and oh how I wish I could turn back the hands of time. I hope that someday tears will stop flowing when I think of him and turn into smiles. I hope that he is happy and pain free in heaven. - Posted by: Brittany Phillips (Granddaughter ) on: Jul 10, 2014

Thank you to everyone that wrote here. It is only 6 months ago that Dad left us and it is still very fresh in our hearts. We miss him dearly and we continue to help those seeds grow that he planted in us. Good seeds of hope, faith, and love. God bless you all! - Posted by: Darrell Phillips (Son) on: Aug 01, 2013

I am richer for having known Buzzy and blessed to know so many that are his family. Henry left such a trail of progeny that his memory, stories and antics, jokes and wisdom will continue to be passed on through the generations to come. I look forward to continue learning about buzzy for a long time. Though he will be sorely missed and there is an emptiness in the hearts of his very large family, the faith and love that he passed on will help to heal the loss along with the knowledge that Buzzy is sitting shoulder to shoulder with the saints, filled with everlasting joy. - Posted by: Br. To my Auntie/sister Zub and family! The impact of losing Uncle Buzzy is so profound, but I will cherish all the good times we all had together! We will still continue to gather to eat for any excuse we can think of! The tears will flow for a long time to come, but I know those tears will eventually turn to warm smiles and chuckles out of nowhere when we think of our Beloved Buzzy! I will cherish the memories that Buzzy left me with and will keep them close to the heart Until We Meet Again!! I am listening to a song as I type that Buzzy used to sing for us! "Don't Overlook Salvation"!! Will miss you dearly!! - Posted by: Kathy Bjork (Niece/Neighbor/Friend) on: Jan 27, 2013
