EILEEN MARY HUGHES (DUNCAN)
Born: Apr 21, 1922
Date of Passing: Jan 23, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEILEEN MARY HUGHES (nee DUNCAN) April 21, 1922 - January 23, 2013 Surrounded by her family, Eileen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 23, 2013. Left to mourn the loss of Eileen are her children Pam (Gary) Turner, Laurie Anne (Angelo) Pacifico, David Hughes, Mari (Hugh) Bonner, and Jeff (Alana) Hughes; grandchildren, Russell (Naomi) Wood, Ali (Nick) Henderson, Sheri (Kesh) Ramarace, Rick Turner, Ben (Leanne Roed) and Alex (Samantha Neufeld) Bonner, Carson Hughes, Cameron, Whitney and Dawson Hughes. She will also be missed by her eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Mel; parents, James and Mary Ann Duncan; an infant sister; and her in-laws Gilbert and Matilda Hughes. Eileen was born on April 21, 1922, in Winnipeg to James and Mary Ann Duncan. She attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate where she met the love of her life Mel Hughes. They married in 1942, and settled in Fort Garry where they raised five children. Eileen was a dedicated mother to her children throughout their lives. She loved her grandchildren, always showing interest and concern. Her great sense of humour was appreciated by everyone. She was an animal lover who had many pets over the years. Eileen was out-going and very friendly. She loved people and maintained strong and lasting relationships with many friends over the years. She was warm and engaging and was very charitable to others. Her sense of style and talent was evident in whatever she pursued. Eileen was a wonderful seamstress, cook, gardener and bridge player. Since Eileen and Mel had no siblings, they were particularly close to their friends, many of who were regarded as family by their children. They valued these friendships but mostly they valued each other. They were devoted to one another and Eileen was heartbroken when Mel died in 2003. She developed a dementia and went to live in the Lions Manor in 2007. Eileen was very happy there and was well cared for by the staff she knew by name. We are so grateful to them for the care and warmth they extended to our mother and to us. A private family Service will be held. Richard Wojcik, Funeral Director of Wojcik's Funeral Chapel Crematorium, is in care of arrangements, 204 - 897 - 4665. Rest In Peace Eileen

I am sorry to hear of Eileen's passing. We spent many years as friends, raising our children & trying to stay 1 step ahead of them as teenagers. Eileen was full of life & love and was a good friend to all who were lucky enough to know her. She will be sadly missed. thinking of the family, Laura & Charlotte Hrenchuk - Posted by: Laura Hrenchuk & family (old friend) on: Mar 03, 2013

I have very fond memories of spending time in the Hughes household when I lived in Winnipeg. Everyone was welcome and the love and friendship was obvious to all who visited. You will be missed Eileen Warmest Regards, Rick Turner - Posted by: Rick Turner () on: Feb 04, 2013

Laurie Ann My deepest sympathy to you and your family - I have been thinking of you the past few days and wondering where you are. I am remembering meeting your Mom and Dad at the wedding - my memories were of a gracious and life embracing woman with a good sense of humour. I am sure she has been missed as her own memory faded these past years and I hope your own memories are of her at her best and most loving. Thinking of you often Linda - Posted by: Linda Barnes (friend of Laurie Ann) on: Jan 27, 2013
