JEAN DOROSCHUK With family at her side, Jean Doroschuk (nee Specaluk) passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 in her 87th year. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Glenn in 1976 and Greg in 2004, her brother Stanley, and parents Beatrice and Nicholas. She will be profoundly missed by her husband of 65 years, Victor, daughter Gaylene Romero, son-in-law Oscar, and the lights of her life - grandchildren Victoria and Marco. Jean married Victor in 1948. She was proud to be an engineer's wife and became the consummate homemaker. Her home was a place where people felt welcome, loved and well fed. She was a truly accomplished baker and cook, turning mere ingredients into culinary delights that would gratify her family and win her countless awards in baking contests, while her horticulture flair won her numerous red ribbons. Her blueberry pie was a famed delight, her hands were never too sore to knead the perogy dough, and her roses always bloomed. Sports interests included swimming and bowling - her competitive nature winning her many titles. Mom was always Number 1 fan at Dad's baseball games, where her enthusiastic cheering could be overheard from far across the field. Mom was a faithful member of Transcona Memorial United Church, seeking solace every Sunday in her favourite seat with a beloved friend. Mom and Dad enriched their lives by traveling all across Canada, the U.S., parts of Europe and beaches in the Caribbean. Her best times, however, were spent at her cherished cottage at White Lake. She was always ready to dip in the waters, try her luck at fishing, or pack a picnic and enjoy the forest. Nothing was more pleasing to her than dressing in some unique costume and setting out for hours blueberry picking, secretly vitalized by the possibility of a bear sighting. And when the weather turned cool, she scrutinized the terrain for the local mushrooms she regarded like prize truffles. But above all, Mom's priority was her family. Victor was her kindred soul that she cherished with undying love. When her eldest son fell invalid, she nursed him at home, unselfishly and painstakingly for over 20 years. During the arduous times she never asked for miracles, instead she persevered with iron-will strength and positive attitude. She was less prepared or willing to deal with her second son's death, but soldiered stoically. When her grandchildren arrived, there was never a happier BABA in the world. Mom's last years were spent at Deer Lodge Centre alongside her husband, where she was cared for like family and entertained by exceptional recreation staff. Her special sense of humour made her a special friend of staff and residents alike. As per Mom's request a private interment will be held. So rest dear Mama - your loving hands shall toil no more, and no more shall your gentle eyes weep.

Uncle Victor, Gaylene and family. I am so sorry to hear of Auntie Jean's passing. I always enjoyed her company at any family gathering. I will always remember her laugh and her smile. She was such a ball of energy. She even found the time to come to see my son Michael when he would sing with his school choir at the annual music festival. I knew she would be an amazing Baba. Your family was truly blessed to have such a devoted wife and mother. A true role model. - Posted by: Joan Hood (Tennese) (extended family) on: Feb 12, 2013

Dear Gaylene, Oscar, Victoria and Marco. I am so sorry to hear of your beloved Mother and Baba's passing. She was one remarkable woman who doted on her family and instilled loving kindness. I first met your mom and dad when they would be over in the afternoons at your house doing various chores and making life easier on two young career people. I would marvel at their energy and joy, and think boy, who has parents like this? Then I got to know you and saw how gracious, kind and energetic you were and realized that good mothers raise good daughters and it is easy to see why Jean had all this time to make life a little easier on her hard working daughter who was just like her. Till you see her again you must know she lives everyday right inside your big heart. Sending hugs and love your way xoxo - Posted by: Candis Militere (neighbor and friend ) on: Feb 06, 2013

My Deepest Sympathy on the loss of Jean. Jean was such a Joy to care for & will be missed so much by us all on L-7. I loved her wonderful sense of humour & the conversations we shared. Jean was a wonderful loving Baba to all the staff & always was so grateful for everything & in her natural caring way, she would worry about the staff's wellbeing more than her own. Her Beautiful Spirit & her Strength was an Inspiration to myself & many others. - Posted by: Carol Sterzer (HCA / Lodge 7 Deer Lodge Centre) on: Feb 04, 2013

Victor and Gaylene (and family), I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I remember her so vividly, there was always a smile and a big hello when I ran into her in the Regent Park Shopping Centre. Grant and Greg were childhood friends and our families knew each other through them. I remember snowmobiling the fields behind your house in Transcona and coming in for a great dinner. I am so sorry for the loss of Glen and Greg, and now Jean/Mom. My sincerest, heartfelt condolences to you both. - Posted by: Leslie (Sebastian) Hardy (Childhood friend's sister) on: Feb 02, 2013
