ALVIN (CLARE) LOUGHEED Alvin "Clare" Lougheed passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on January 3, 2013, with family by his side. Clare was born in Deloraine, MB on November 30, 1955, second son of Wm. Russel and Elva (Johnson) Lougheed. Clare was raised on the family farm in the Bidford area and attended school at Bidford School until its closure and then continued his education in Deloraine. Upon his graduation, he began a banking career with the Toronto Dominion Bank in Deloraine and then in Glenavon, SK. Clare decided to continue his education and attended Brandon University where he completed a four year Honours program in Computer Science. He accepted employment with MTS in Winnipeg in January of 1982, where he continued to be a dedicated employee for over 30 years, working as a Computer Analyst until illness forced his leave in 2012. Clare enjoyed curling, golf, reading, and genealogy. Travel became a passion he shared with his brother and family, highlighted by a family trip to Ireland in 2004 to the land of their forefathers. Clare found special joy in time spent with his three nephews and their families and was a supportive influence throughout their lives. He was predeceased by his mother, Elva Lougheed. Clare leaves to mourn his loss father, Russel Lougheed of Deloraine, MB; brother, Brian Lougheed (Elaine) of Erickson, MB; nephews, Colin Lougheed (Chrissy), Brett Lougheed (Denise), Kyle Lougheed, and great-nephew and niece William and Sophie Lougheed all of Winnipeg, MB, as well as extended family and friends. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. George and Dr. Joshua, nurses and staff on the 5th Floor at Grace Hospital for the excellent care provided to Clare. In accordance with Clare's wishes a graveside service was held at the Lougheed family plot in the Boissevain Cemetery with Smith's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Donations in Clare's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
