JANET LOUISE REID (nee HRUDA) 1951 - 2013 Janet passed away peacefully in the early morning of Monday, January 28, 2013, surrounded by her family. Janet was born in Altona, MB, and raised by her parents Lillian and Menno Hruda in Gretna, Manitoba. She graduated from Mennonite Collegiate Institute (MCI) in Gretna in 1968. After high school, Janet left Gretna to attend University of Winnipeg and proudly graduated as a Registered Technologist in Medical Laboratory Technology in 1973. She took great pride in and thoroughly enjoyed her job as a Lab Tech for over 30 years. At work, Janet's favourite bench was mycology. Janet was introduced to Doug, her husband to be, by a mutual friend, in her last year of college. Doug swept her off her feet and they were married in June 1974, and moved to Vancouver in 1980. After several years of travel and marital bliss, Doug and Janet had their first born son, Robbie, in 1981, followed by their daughter, Andrea in 1984. Janet deeply enjoyed spending time with her family, including camping, regular trips driving across the prairies to Winnipeg, and spending time on their boat at Horton Bay, Sucia or Prevost. Janet also enjoyed riding her bicycle, walking, playing cards with friends, telling bad jokes, knitting, reading, curling, baking and drinking tea. Doug and Janet became proud grandparents to Ethan in 2010, son of Robbie and Colleen. Janet will be deeply missed by her loving husband Doug, Robbie, Colleen, Ethan, Andrea and her partner Tony. She will also be missed by her mother Lillian Hruda, her brother Steve (Sharon) Hruda and sister Norma (Jim) Wiebe and their families. She was predeceased by her father Menno in 1999, and her father-in-law, Mark in 1994. A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church 4755 Arthur Drive, Delta, BC, on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Irene Thomas Hospice or the ALS Society of BC, in Janet's memory. The family extends a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Irene Thomas Hospice in Ladner, the ALS Society of BC, and the ALS Clinic at G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre.
