JILL CHRISTINE CHWAN Our beloved Jill Christine Chwan, passed away on January 24, 2013, at her home in Anaheim, California, surrounded by her family, following a long battle with cancer. She was born September 23, 1943, in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, to James and Elizabeth Lyon. Attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute, graduating in 1961. She especially loved all of her memorable trips to the family cabin in Ingolf, ON while growing up. Jill developed a love for reading books and listening to Doo-wop music from the 50s and 60s at a very young age. She met the love of her life, Brian K. Chwan, and married on May 18, 1963. Jill and Brian moved to Southern California in 1965 and never looked back. She loved going to the beach in Huntington during the sunny and warm California weekends. Throughout her life, she had an enduring fondness for Dachshunds, and her cherished puppies became fixtures in the family home. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and twice journeyed to Scotland to immerse herself in the culture, music, and people. She retired from St. Jude's Hospital in 2006 after being a payroll supervisor for 15 years. Above all, Jill loved being a mother and grandmother and made her family the number one priority during her life. Her caring and watchful ability to look out for others lent itself to becoming a surrogate mother for many youths in her community during their time of need. She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Brian K. Chwan; daughter Dena (Jim), Ventura, CA; son Brian (Jennifer), Chino, CA; two beautiful grandchildren Taylor and Grace; sister Bronwyn, Sydney, BC; mother-in-law Mildred, Winnipeg, MB; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you, to our dearest and most loyal friend, Patricia Wilman, who was with our family and by Jill's side during her time of greatest need. We would also like to mention a special thank you to the staff at Saint Jude's Hospital, Saint Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Hospice Care of California, and Benchmark Home Care Services. You truly became like family to us. At Jill's request, there will be no service or memorial in her honor. Online condolences can be sent to jcccalif@aol.com. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to Hospice Care of California in Jill's memory at: http://www.hospicecareofca.org/

  • Wow. can't believe you never mentioned Billy or June. I liked Jill, though she never liked me. Leave Winnipeg and all is lost. Sad. - Posted by: susanna chwan (ex sister-in-law) on: Dec 01, 2013
