HELENA ZMUDA-TRZEBIATOWSKA It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Helena Zmuda-Trzebiatowska (Kapeluch) at Health Sciences Centre on Friday, February 1, 2013, days away from the 52nd Birthday. Helena (Halina), daughter of Kataryna and Andrij Kapeluch, was born February 5, 1961, in Borzytuchom, Poland. Helena grew up on her parents' farm along with her two brothers Mike and Bogdan, as the youngest of three, she enjoyed many activities on her parents' farm. After completing High School Helena obtained diploma in Culinary Arts. A few years later she completed a Nursing Assistant Course. Helena met her former husband Kazimierz Zmuda-Trzebiatowski and married in 1979. Together they raised three children. Glisno, Poland is where Helena and her family set up roots, running their own farm. She looked after livestock, the garden and the orchard. She also looked after her husband's elderly relatives. Helena loved to spend time at the lake as well visiting with family and friends. Her true passion was to be in the kitchen cooking and baking. No one ever went hungry while visiting her household. Mom also made sure her daughters knew their way around the kitchen. In 1991 Helena immigrated to Canada along with her husband, children and parents to begin a new life in Winnipeg. She attended night school to learn English, worked at Holy Family Nursing Home as a cook, as a caretaker, and most recently as a clerk at a grocery store. While in Canada, She continued to embrace her Polish and Ukrainian heritage. Helena especially enjoyed going to dance recitals to see her children perform. When her parents were alive, Helena enjoyed visiting them at Ivan Franko Manor. Helena recently became a grandmother to two young grandsons Janek and Wojtek Devine. She looked forward to her visits with them since they would always put a smile on her face. Helena leaves to mourn and cherish daughters; Katarzyna and Emilia (Scott) and son Zbigniew, as well as her brothers Mike (Bozena) and Bogdan, and former husband Kazimierz and grandchildren Janek and Wojtek. She also leaves behind her cousins, aunts and uncles in Europe and Canada. All services will be held at The Metropolitan Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga at 115 McGregor St. Rt. • I met Helena in our church where she attended regularly until moving across town. I had the joy of speaking the deep things of Jesus with Helena many times. She fell in love with Jesus and is now with Him safe and sound. It was a privilege to get to know Helena. - Posted by: Rev Pastor Kelly Cochrane (Pastor) on: Feb 06, 2013

  • I first met Helena when I became her mentor but she became my friend. I loved the way Helena laughed, how she loved her family and especially her grandsons. Helena was a very caring person who was always thinking of someone else. Today my heart was very sad - we had planned to go to one of her favorite places today - Applebees - to celebrate her birthday. Helena, you had a special place in my heart and I will miss you. I loved you! Arla - Posted by: Arla Everett (Friend) on: Feb 04, 2013
