BERNHARD KROEMER
Date of Passing: Feb 05, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNHARD KROEMER Our hearts are broken to announce the sudden death of our father and Opa, Bernhard Kroemer on February 5, 2013. He was predeceased by his wife Gertraude and brothers Ulrich and Eckhard. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by daughters Sabina (Nathan) Jacob and Jo-Anne (Brian) Hass, grandchildren Anthony and Stephanie Jacob, sister Brigitte Kroemer and family in Germany, and many friends. Bernhard was born August 9, 1929 in Breslau, Germany. Wartime resulted in fleeing from home and tragic loss of many family members. He went on to serve an apprenticeship and to study mechanical engineering in Cologne. In 1955 he immigrated to Canada and worked in the mines in Lynn Lake, MB for four years. In 1958 Gertraude followed him to Canada from Osnabrueck, Germany and they married in 1958. They settled in Winnipeg and Bernhard worked for various mechanical contractors before founding his own firm, Insul Contracting Inc. For years he served as a representative of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Manitoba. He had deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hunting, hiking and nature study. He built a cottage in the Whiteshell, and then the one at Belair on Lake Winnipeg which became the second family home. He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed researching the destinations of his and Gertraude's extensive travels and educating himself in new technology, financial matters, and economic and political issues. He created a wonderful home for his family in a literal way through his building projects, and by creating and upholding many traditions of a very family-centred lifestyle. A busy retirement included computer and stock trading clubs; and regular outings to Birds Hill Park, Lake Winnipeg beaches and the Whiteshell. He was a loyal fan and spectator at Anthony and Stephanie's hockey and soccer games. He will be dearly remembered as our role model of good old fashioned hard work and ethical behaviour. A memorial service will be held at Abundant Life Lutheran Church, 3486 Raleigh Street in East St. Paul, MB on Sunday, February 10 at 3:00 p.m.
