THOMAS EDWARD (DUKE) GHIDONI On Tuesday, January 29, 2013, Duke Ghidoni of Winnipeg passed away at the age of 56 years. Duke will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Bryan (Donna), Tim, Robert (Linda), Ron (Karen); his sister Cathy (Glenn); nieces and nephews Chera Rasmussen (Mark), Ryan Ghidoni (Noreen), Dwaine and Melissa Ghidoni, Dallas and Dillon Tuckett; aunty Sophie Poitras, cousin Chris Wyshnicki and numerous other relatives. Also left to honour his memory and celebrate his life are close friends Penny, Dylan and goddaughter Jenna Topolnitsky. Duke was predeceased by his parents Jean and Albert Ghidoni; uncle Peter and cousin Lorne Wyshnicki; and best friend Keith Wurtak. Growing up on Springfield Road and McKay Avenue in North Kildonan, Duke enjoyed many adventures with his family and friends, who loved his sense of humour and generous nature. He developed skills and a strong work ethic to excel as a Tire Retreading Technician at Columbia Tire, Quality Tire, Dial Tire, Western Tire, Natco and then at his favourite workplace, Kal Tire. He specialized in Bangdag Radial Repair and enjoyed the camaraderie and team spirit of his co-workers. Duke especially loved his goddaughter Jenna and participated in her life with regular phone calls, fishing trips, visits to her concerts, sport events and birthday parties. He was the energetic Uncle Duke who playfully frolicked with the grandkids and babies Kaia, Max and Emma Rasmussen and Logan and Harper Ghidoni. He also played special games with the nieces and nephews in earlier years at family gatherings. Duke was a true friend and shared his talents in joke telling, bowling, cycling, gardening/yard work, painting, home/machine repair and cooking. He was known for his exceptional potato salad, fried chicken, Xmas baking and garlic dill pickles. We will miss his warm smile and considerate attitude. A memorial service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013. A private family interment will follow in the spring at All Saints Cemetery at his mother Jean's gravesite. Donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society in Duke's honour and in recognition of his enjoyment of his canine friends Konnor and Lucky. 204-586-8044

Dukey was my playmate and good pal growing up on Springfield Road. As young children, we spent a lot of time in each others' company. I remember the long walk down the driveway to his house, playing in the fields, catching crayfish in the "big ditch" with our dog Tramp, hiding in the bull rushes all afternoon, exploring the "new house", building our own raft to sail over the flooded fields in the springtime with Tim, and getting very dirty just having good wholesome fun. It was Dukey and Tim who encouraged me to ride a bike for the first time and it was Dukey who rescued me from an angry blackbird that fell down the chimney when I was alone in my house. I've thought often of my childhood friend and I'm so sad to learn of his passing far too soon. My deepest condolences to Bryan, Tim, Robert, Ron and Cathy and to all of Dukey's family and friends. My thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Debbie DeGroot (Childhood friend) on: Feb 14, 2013
