HELEN HARRIET SHIELS (nee DOTY) August 6, 1924 - February 4, 2013 Peacefully with family by her side, Helen passed away at Victoria Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Fred (1986), daughter Marlene (1992), three brothers and 3 sisters. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Stella Koch; daughter Nadine (Kevin); grandchildren Francie, Jade (Tiffany), Cheyenne and Autumn; great grandchildren Nastassja, Shandeana, Jacinda, Kayla, Riley, Grace and Shane, as well as many extended family members and friends. Helen grew up in Westbourne, MB. She moved to Winnipeg and met her True Love Fred. She worked several jobs most notably Moirs Drugstore for 37 years at Morley and Osborne where it seemed she was known by literally everyone in the neighborhood. Always an avid walker, she enjoyed the Walking Group at R.O.C.C.. She loved to bowl and liked to play bingo. For a woman who claimed not to enjoy cooking, mom produced many extensive and delicious family dinners and forever spoiled anyone else's baking for all family members. Above all else Helen was devoted to her family. She played a huge role in her grandchildren's lives. She embodied the term 'unconditional love'. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. Flowers are gratefully declined. Give someone a hug and be kind. • Helen was a kind and gentle woman who always had a smile on her face. She was an inspiration to us all for her devotion to her family and her love of life. She was very active with her bowling and walking up to the last year. My sympathy to the family. May you find comfort in knowing that our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Debbie Leishman (Friend of her daughter Nadine) on: Feb 14, 2013

  • I am so sorry to hear of Helen's passing. I met Helen when we worked together at Moir's drugstore in the 60's. We kept in touch for many years but our paths haven't crossed for the last 5 yrs.
