BARRY LEONARD HEDLEY SCOTT It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Barry Leonard Hedley Scott on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, surrounded by his family, in New Westminister, B.C. He will be greatly missed by his wife Diana; children Barry, Glenn (Michelle), Shaun (Kim), Wendy Wasylnuk (Gary), and Buddy all of Winnipeg, and Tara Kong (Adam) of New Westminister, B.C.; his brothers and sisters Durlene (Bill), Earl (Susan), Valdine, (Mike d.), Tom (Lucille), and Karen all of Winnipeg; as well as his grandchildren Tiara, Kaila, Jaida, Adam, Mitchell, Mason, Jody (Chris), Jamie (Fatima), Dustin (Ashley), Jasmine, Holley, Brandin, Tess, Shaylee, Shanna, Mikayla, Kaydi, Alycia, Nikki, Ricky, Christina and Danny Jr.; and his many cherished great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Barry was predeceased by his stepchildren Danny and Shannon McDermot and by his father Earl and mother Violet (nee Foley). Barry was born in Neepawa, MB, on February 28, 1943. At the age of 10, his family moved to Winnipeg where he spent the next 30 years before he took up residence in B.C. He had a varied career and gleaned much satisfaction from the work he did with troubled youth. He was involved in the first Meals on Wheels program through the Rehabilitation Hospital in Winnipeg, was the Assistant Director of Pathways homes and developed a policy manual adopted across Manitoba at that time. He was a member of the New Westminister Advocacy Committee for Seniors and also received honours from the city of Vancouver for saving the lives of two individuals. He had a passion for life, an intense interest in politics, world affairs, and sports and passed many happy hours watching his football games on television. Barry was a sensitive, loving, intelligent, thoughtful man with a wonderful sense of humor. His love for family was evident in the warmth and affection with which he carried out his roles as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He adored Blackie the squirrel and lovingly prepared treats for any creature that happened near his home. A dreamer, a romantic and deeply influenced by Buddhism, he found poetry in trees blowing in the wind, the power of lightening and the beauty of the sky. His struggle was long and hard but his courage was immense. "Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared." Be at peace Dad, your love will last forever. The family greatly appreciated the care of the doctors and staff at the Royal Columbia Hospital during these difficult months. A memorial service will be held in Winnipeg at a later date.

  • To My Dear Brother Barry. With Love Valdine “He Ain’t Heavy…He’s My Brother” Bobby Scott and Bob Russell The road is long With many a winding turn That leads us to who knows where Who knows when But I'm strong Strong enough to carry him He ain't heavy, he's my brother So on we go His welfare is of my concern No burden is he to bear We'll get there For I know He would not encumber me He ain't heavy, he's my brother If I'm laden at all I'm laden with sadness That everyone's heart Isn't filled with the gladness Of love for one another It's a long, long road From which there is no return While we're on the way to there Why not share And the load Doesn't weigh me down at all He ain't heavy, he's my brother He's my brother He ain't heavy, he's my brother... - Posted by: Valdine Scott (Sister) on: Feb 12, 2013
