LUCIENNE JEANNE LANE (nee HEROUX) We have lost a magnificent lady. The matriarch of our family passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013, at the glorious age of 97. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank, children Allan, Lloyd, Clifford (Pearl) and baby Judy, plus son-in-law Laurent. She is survived by her children Joan, Evelyn (Don), Ed (Colleen), Gerry (Sherry) and sisters Rita and Therese. Mom was born in Elm Creek, Manitoba, September 7, 1915, to parents Frank and Jeanne Heroux. After the loss of her mother as a child she spent her early years raised by her grandparents Adolphe and Tharcille Heroux near Eriksdale. While on the homestead she met her loving husband Frank with whom she was married for 54 years. They worked hard raising eight children and running their own businesses beginning on the farm, and then operating a store/post office in Suffern, hotels in East Braintree and Ste. Agathe and real estate in Winnipeg. Her last job was at St. Boniface Nursing School. Mom and Dad always hosted special occasions and visits from out-of-town family and friends. Music and family get-togethers were highlights of their life. Mom was an outstanding artist from a young age. She was also a talented seamstress. Her loves included gardening and travel. Travel was often to visit family and usually with a car load. She had learned to play several musical instruments on the homestead and also especially loved fiddle music. Mom was the glue that kept our family tight. She gave us all the love, confidence and direction needed to succeed. She will be lovingly remembered for that devotion to family of which she leaves behind a legacy including 23 grandchildren 29 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Mom was a remarkable woman, loved by all that were fortunate enough to meet her. Friends were many and for life. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Health Care and staff at both Cathedrale Manor and the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their loving care of Mom in her final years and weeks, respectively. Your kindness was certainly appreciated. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 847 St. Mary's Rd. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I only met Mrs. Lane once and I sincerely sensed a spirit of great gentleness but also great strength. After hearing about her and having met her, I would like to applaud her life and especially let Joan (her daughter) know that she was the very best that a daughter could be for her dear mother. - Posted by: Louisa Ryz (Neighbour and friend) on: Feb 16, 2013

  • Just over 30 years ago I met a wonderful loving lady I was lucky enough to call Gramma, such a lovely lady that loved my children (her great grand children), and I also felt her love as well, there was always a smile, a hug and of course something to eat when we would visit. thank you "gramma" for the wonderful memories. - Posted by: Janice Grift ( Lane ) (Former grand daughter in law) on: Feb 11, 2013

  • I had the pleasure of knowing this wonderful woman for a little over 2 years as my dining companion here at the Manor. She was a beautiful, loving and compassionate person....I will miss her deeply but I know she is where she wanted to be....with God, Frank, and her kids. - Posted by: Louise Landry (friend) on: Feb 11, 2013

  • Auntie Lu was indeed a magnificent lady, who was so loved and cherished. My memories go back to the farm in Abbeville, and many occasions over the years. She will be missed. - Posted by: Claudette (Great niece) on: Feb 10, 2013

  • Grandma was a truly wonderful lady. I have always treasured the memories of our trips to Winnipeg. She was a fantastic baker, I love her cake donuts. I have many fond memories of the house on Monck with the beautiful garden, the many family picutres that took up entire walls and the canning that lined the walls down the stairs to the basement. Grandma was truly a beautiful person inside and out and so full of love and patience. I will remember her and treasure all of those memories always. I love you grandma! - Posted by: Lynette DeRosa (grand daughter) on: Feb 09, 2013
