RUTH SHINOFF On Thursday, February 7, 2013, Ruth passed away at Victoria Hospital after a brief illness. She is survived by her daughter Brenda, grandchildren, Blair and Maya, as well as her sister Rhea (Julian) Toole of San Francisco, brother Paul (Rhoda) Shinoff of Montreal, sister Rhoda Keynes (Les Marks), numerous nieces and one nephew. After graduating university Ruth worked professionally as a social worker, and was proud to see Brenda follow in her footsteps. Her love and compassion for others was obvious, as people from all walks of life were always welcomed into her home and brought together. She was genuinely interested in and supportive of all her friends and family. (She was also a dog lover and kept doggie cookies on hand for any doggie visitors!) Ruth was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario. However, she was truly a citizen of the world. Travel was her biggest passion. She had lived, worked and visited many different countries, and was still planning more adventures when she fell ill. As per her wishes, she has been cremated. There will be a memorial service held at Temple Shalom, 1077 Grant Avenue, on Friday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m. Donations in Ruth's name can be made out to Temple Shalom. Ruth was such a gentle loving soul. Always there with bells on, ready to be involved. With Ruth I always felt loved and accepted for who I am. I hear her gentle loving voice. A very caring, strong, fun loving, adventuresome, compassionate, warm, human being who will be very much missed. - Posted by: Martha Riddle (neice) on: Feb 22, 2013

Ruth often reminded me that she carried me home from the hospital in 1954, and since then has continued to carry me through life with her love, joie de vivre, magnificent energy, enthusiasm, zest for life, and love of all living things. Living life to the fullest and turning over every stone are two of the qualities I learned from Ruth. This world is a better place because of her! - Posted by: Susan Bach (neice) on: Feb 21, 2013

That dear woman Ruth made us so welcome in Gimli when Jim Watson and I moved to the 'Beach'. We joined the ASPIRE theatre and there she was warm, friendly, a big smile - including us in the happenings. Encouraging to jump and follow dreams, and that's how we met Tanis, too. Thank you. Bless. - Posted by: Helma Rogge Rehders (friend) on: Feb 21, 2013
