REVEREND KENNETH ALEXANDER INNES It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rev. Ken Innes on February 7, 2013 at the age of 70 years. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Carole; son Troy Innes and his wife Stephanie along with their daughters, Inara and Kalie; son Ryan Innes; sister Donna Jean Innes; brother Edward Innes; brother Grant (Anne) Innes; sister Maxine (Don) Holbrough and many nieces and nephews (along with their children). Ken was predeceased by his father Burns in 1989 and his mother Florence in 2000. Ken grew up on the family dairy farm in Oxford County, Ontario. He attended elementary school at S.S. No. 7 and high school at Stratford Central Secondary School. During his time at Waterloo Lutheran University, Ken felt called to enter the ministry. He answered God's call by attending Knox College in Toronto, graduating in 1969 and being ordained into the Presbyterian Church of Canada. Ken began his ministry at the four-point charge of Wanham, Belloy, Brownvale, and Dixonville (Alberta) in 1969. During this time he met his wife, Carole, and they were married in 1972. After realignment, Ken served at Wanham and Blueberry Mountain until 1975. From Alberta, Ken and Carole moved to Brussels/Belgrave in Ontario where they remained until 1983 when, along with their two young sons (Troy and Ryan), they made their final move to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to answer the call to St. John's Presbyterian Church. Ken remained in this position until his retirement from St. John's in 2004. Ken's love of life led him to enjoy a variety of pastimes including curling, plowing, travelling, gardening, model railroading, collecting toy tractors, playing the bagpipes, baseball, hockey, golf, as well as many other activities. Ken believed in a broad definition of family that included his friends, neighbours, and church congregation. Above all else, Ken lived his life to glorify God. A celebration of Ken's life will be held on Monday, February 11, at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman Avenue at 2:00 p.m. A committal service will be held on Tuesday, February 12, at Fairmount Cemetery (North of Minnedosa) at 12:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken's memory may be made to St. John's Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman Avenue. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • It was a shock to hear of Ken's death. He was one of my younger cousins. I am so glad we had that wonderful day at Maxine's a year ago as it had been many years since we had seen you. Our prayers and sympathy are with you all - Posted by: Margaret and Bruce Mccorquodale (Marg is Ken's cousin) on: Feb 27, 2013

  • It was with deep sadness that I heard of the news of Ken's passing. how blessed I was to have spent time this summer with you both. It will be a fond and warm memory to hold. May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surround all of you and give you comfort. Love Linda Littlejohn - Posted by: Linda Littlejohn (Friend) on: Feb 13, 2013

  • Carole and I have known each other since we were single girls teaching and sharing an apartment together. In knew Ken since my home town was Dixonville which had one of the congregations he served at the time. My mother always remembered often waking up on a Monday morning and finding Ken sleeping on our couch since his Sundays involved a lot of driving and visiting so he stayed over before going back to Wanham. One weekend, being the curling enthusiast, he phoned to ask if I wanted to curl in a bonspiel. I wasn't keen but I said my roommate might like to go- and she did - and now you know the rest of the story. Carole, my thoughts are with you and my prayers are for you every day . - Posted by: Karen Burgess (friend) on: Feb 12, 2013

  • Sorry to hear of the passing of Rev. Ken Innes. I have good memories of the time and work Ken did for our Church (Strang Presbyterian) and our community of Dixonville, AB. He made the world a better place. - Posted by: Margaret (Canning) Sorensen () on: Feb 12, 2013

  • Both Ken and I were called to congregations in Winnipeg in the early 80's. I recall one of our first Synods together, in Thunder Bay, when we 'hung out' together as neither of us had yet formed close bonds in the Presbytery. I remember Ken as a deeply faithful servant of his Lord who always had the best interests of the church at heart. My wife, Tammy, and I extend our sincere condolences to Carole and all their extended family. Ted Hicks and Tammy Matheson - Posted by: Rev. Ted Hicks (Colleague ) on: Feb 12, 2013

  • Rev. K. Innes was the minister who married my husband Ken and I in 1991. Also he came out of retirement to do the service when I lost my Ken in 2009. When Rev. Innes agreed to do the funeral for me, it was such a happy moment, during that sad time. There was no one else I could think of that could send my Ken off, for my family. Rev. Innes was a good minister, as well as a good man. I enjoyed his many sermons and humor. Rest in peace, it is well deserved. - Posted by: Shirley Hares (member of St. John's Presbyterian Church) on: Feb 11, 2013

  • I was matron of honor at Lloyd and Florence's wedding. I so appreciate the trip you and Carole made to Neepawa 2012 for my birthday - tea, cake, and a wonderful visit. You will be missed by many - but remembered by many for your kindness. - Posted by: Mrs. Doris Griffiths (sister to Florence Horan ) on: Feb 11, 2013

  • It was Ken who married us in 1993, we have many memories - he visited Lloyd in hospital in 2006, he helped Lloyd build his railway in our back room, and we always looked forward to his visits. Now God has called him Home. We will miss you Ken but always in our memories. - Posted by: Lloyd and Florence Horan (friends at St.John's ) on: Feb 11, 2013
