LENA SMORANG (NEE MIRECKI) September 21, 1918 - February 12, 2013 Peacefully on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother Lena passed away at the Concordia Hospital after a brief illness. Lena was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, her sisters, Mary and Ann, and her son, Barry. She is survived by her daughters Pat (Terry), Sharon, grandchildren, Scott, Jeff (Jennifer) and Kyla, great-grandchildren, Kegan, Reece, Chaeli, Jake, Luke, and Ty. Lena was born on a farm near Meleb, MB where she spent her early years growing up and attending school. She married Joseph Smorang in 1949 in Libau, MB where they farmed until they moved to Winnipeg in the late 50's. Lena worked at Eatons for a few years but most of all she enjoyed being a full-time mom, cooking, knitting and especially entertaining family and friends during all the holidays. She treasured and spoiled her cat Sammy who provided her with many years of companionship. Her favorite past times were playing cards and going to bingo with all her close friends especially Mrs. Otulak. Mom's kindness and grace touched everyone she met. She was the pillar of our family. In keeping with Lena's wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Lena's life and the wonderful gifts she gave to us all will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the charity of choice. The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Johnson and all the staff at N1 South, Concordia Hospital for all the kindness, support and medical care provided.
