Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLORENCE GERTRUDE ZAWISLAK (nee HEYMON) Florence Zawislak passed on February 12, 2013 at Maples Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her parents Anita Surby and Nicholas Heymon, and her husband Martin (Moe) Zawislak. Born in Chicago, IL on February 27, 1928, Florence came to Canada as a child and grew up a North End girl. She spent most of her married life with Martin on Hazel Dell Ave in East Kildonan. Surrounded by good friends and neighbours, Flo and Moe hosted many front step gatherings on warm summer evenings during their many years there. Mom was an accomplished seamstress, fabulous cook, and she proudly did her crosswords with a pen. She is survived by her daughter Diane McLeary (Jim), granddaughters Nikki (Ryan, Natalie) and Leah (Jzero), sister Evelyn Skirzyk, and will be missed by her lifelong friend Helen Gemzyk. A private family service will be held this August, on what would have been Mom and Dad's 65th wedding anniversary. Rest quietly Nana

Diane, so many wonderful memories are flooding back as I remember your mom. Everything from sipping hot tea in your kitchen whenever I locked myself out, to the thrill of looking at the stars with the telescope, to the excitement of watching your mom create yet another gorgeous outfit. Mostly, I remember your mom and dad sitting in the backyard after dinner each evening, and your mom always feeding special treats to our dogs over the fence. She was truly a lovely lady. - Posted by: Pat Simcoe-Rosenbaum (Hazel Dell Neighbour) on: May 07, 2013

Dianne, My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family at this time. I have many fond memories of your parents (Flo & Moe) and the times our families would get together when we were youngsters. Wish I could say something that would help with your grief. Sincerely, John Gemzik - Posted by: John J. Gemzik (Family Friend) on: Feb 20, 2013

I am so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing, Di! I know in my heart that she is in a better place and is reunited with her soul mate, Mo. I have such beautiful memories of Flo and sitting around your kitchen table - we shared many meals, laughs and tears along the way! Crosswords, solitaire, Coronation Street, sleep overs, Kraft Dinner, pancakes - and Flo made my first wedding dress!! I will never forget her sweet smile and I send you, Jim and the girls much love and sympathy....Always, Leah - Posted by: Leah Dupuis (nee McWhinney) (Hazeldell Neighbour) on: Feb 19, 2013

P.S. Something happened to the end of my tribute, but I wanted to add that my son Randy Clark (Edm) called to tell me that during his university years he worked with you Diane and also knew Jim at that time. Small world. Take care and keep well. - Posted by: Gerry (Surby) Clark, Calgary, AB (cousin) on: Feb 19, 2013

Diane and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember Flo. Flo would let me come over sometimes for Kraft dinner or "spegetti o"s at lunch when I would walk home from school with Diane. Flo made a dress and a pair of palazzo pants for me way back when and for some reason she was the one I trusted to pull a tooth or two when needed. She was such a nice lady. I'll miss her too. Love to you all. - Posted by: jill palmer (nee mcwhinney) (hazeldell neighbor) on: Feb 16, 2013
